Hi folks.
I have no sound... the search-funktion gives me no results.
My System: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=18018.msg362446#msg362446
I have the newest client version.
I use ALSA and this is the newest version, too.
I had tried to start PS with "aoss" (it's installed), but I used the link to the sh file.
Important: I have ALSA outside of the kernel! (alsa-driver)
In other games like nexuiz, sauerbraten, counter-strike ... I have sound, and i mustn't say "use aoss", it's only by teamspeak...
So i don't know where's the problem.
My PS is installed in /home/*user*/shell-scripts/PlaneShift/
the rights are okay.
it's not system wide installed.
I saw in the /art/ folder an .xml sheet. there is the path /planeshift/bla/music/ ... also "planeshift" in small letters, it's important??
greetings

I also use gentoo, KDE, and alsa, not installed system wide, using the kernel driver, but the separate driver should be fine... and sound has always worked fine for me. You don't want to use 'aoss' that is for old programs that only have OSS support. Just run planeshift normally, and you could try running './pssetup' and see if sound is disabled there.
The xml file (/art/soundlib.xml) uses Crystal Space's VFS (virtual file system), don't worry about the lowercase 'planeshift' at the start of all paths, it is a link to where ever it's installed.
If none of that helps, try opening the 'psclient.cfg' file, and see if you can find something similar to what is in mine:
;Sound renderer
System.PlugIns.iSndSysRenderer = crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.software
; Sound Loader
System.PlugIns.iSndSysLoader = crystalspace.sndsys.element.loader
; Linux - ALSA buffer sound setting
SndSys.Driver.ALSA.SoundBufferms = 150
I don't really know off hand how it's enabled or disabled in that file, I normally just use pssetup.

this are my cfg. with this i get no sound... and i don't why. i tested many things, but nothing work.
and all of my other games and programs work fantastic with external alsa

hi there,
did you try the ebuild to build planeshift or did you use the bin one ?
if not, let give it a try and tell me : http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=27667.0
see you

I used the bin file and not the ebuild. In the portage tree is not planeshift, also I don't add an ebuild.
the ebuild threads looks very confusing...
