I am using a windows machine how can i build my own server and if i can compile this on my windows machine any pointers?
-
http://planeshift.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/planeshift/trunk/docs/compiling.html << read and select windows in the drop down
-
keep in mind what they give you is only place holder items...
Because allowing you access to the actual game like every other open source project would go against thier corporate style buisness model apparently...
-
ouch, don't be ridiculous.
The code is free and open source, the art & settings are proprietary to keep the game unique. It's that simple.
If you don't agree, you are free to use the PlaneShift code to start your own MMO :)

if you want a server for whatever reason you have to do it the long way, there is no shortcut to get one.

sorry if I am not interpreting your intentions correctly, but reading this thread, I am getting the feeling that you should strongly, and I do mean STRONGLY read this post:

The lag is for 90% caused by graphics issues, and therefor client side. A local server will not change anything in the speed with which you can explore the world, besides not having other characters around (causing the other 10% lag). You can teleport though. But that ruins most of the fun of exploring.

Well, I would say it depends on your graphics card and amount of RAM. Mine is not flash, a nvidia 6600GT, but for me it is quite a bit slower on laanx than localhost. Though from talking with others who have slower graphics chips, there is not as much difference.

lol its svn, you use an svn client to download all the files at once
