Title: /attack syntax
Post by: tramsch on February 25, 2008, 10:15:19 pm
Hi,

is the "/attack" syntax working as documented?

The ingame-help talks about "/attack stance#" where # could be set from 1 to 5.

I am not able to get this working, I tried it with and without a whitespace between "stance" and the number.
My character then always attacks with "normal" stance as if I just typed "/attack".

Any suggestions?

no sorry it has been changed but the guide hasnt been updated  :P

put hover your mouse on the 5 heads on the upper right corner, you will see stances like "Bloody, Agressive, normal, Defensive, Full defensive".

quicker is to click on one of these heads to change quickly stances in a combat :) just an advice though  :P

You need to use "/attack bloody", "/attack normal", etc now.

fixed in svn

<topic name="/attack">/attack [bloody|aggressive|normal|defensive|fullydefensive]
Attack the targeted character. Normal stance will be used if none is specified. Bloody stance will increase the attack damage, but reduce the defense, fullydefensive does the opposite, and the other stances range between.</topic>

It would be cool if when you selected attack and were too far away to attack it just automatically moved you close enough to attack. It would also be cool if you could either set it to automatically attack in bloody mode, or whatever level u want. (personally I dont see why there are several levels of attack.  why would u want to do less than max damage?)
Actually, I would make the left mouse button select a target and activate the menu of choices for non-attack options, but have the right mouse just select a chr and immediately go into attack mode.  It would save a lot of time.  this could also work as an automatic mine(more on mining elsewhere)  or use function. just right click to "do" something with whatever u have in hand.  If I have a pick, right click makes me start to mine, if I have a sword, I attack (unless the object I have selected is un-attackable, then it automatically tries to use it.
(PS: It would also be cool if a window opened automatically to loot from if the body has loot.  I think I have missed half the stuff on bodies because they disappear before i can find the loot spot!)

Thanks for listening!

The more powerful your attack, I believe the more it opens you up for greater damage too. So if you're on bloody, you'll find yourself receiving stronger wounds. (Someone correct me my memory is wrong here.)

automatically moved you close enough to attack
All weapons have a delay which varies with its speed parameter. If you study your weapon(s) appropriately, you can trigger and let that delay pass before you stand the chance of getting hit.

why would u want to do less than max damage?
Because maximum damage is like playing a team sport with no defense or goaltender. A Bloody attack is an option in certain situations but using it exclusively is a gamble, and not a good one.

a window opened automatically to loot from if the body has loot
A 'body' that has just been struck down *is* already in focus and selected, just hit a /loot KB shortcut
Imagine if a window pops up and you have a dozen other attackers with you as target.

"automatically moved you close enough to attack"

by this I mean that when I select a foe and select attack, sometimes it says I am too far away to attack.  I thought it would be better if it just automatically moved me in range tro attack, since that is what I intended to do.

good point about the looting.  Perhaps having the bodies stick around longer, then?  I can only imagine if I did have several foes that most of them would disappear before I could loot them if I was in battle even for a minute or two.

I have used the /loot command lately, and it is ok, but it would be nice if it were just a button.  It is pretty easy to inadvertantly unselect the foe.

OK, so Bloody attacks leave me more open.  I have also found that they take more energy, making me tired quicker, tho i didn't read that anywhere..
