Title: Minimum Operating System?
Post by: Corune on March 01, 2008, 11:33:58 pm
What is the minimum operating system for Steel Blue?  Everything still says it will work on Windows 98, but I just installed it and get the message "The ...PSCLIENT.EXE file expects a newer version of Windows.  Upgrade your Windows version." after it is installed and I try to run it.  I really hope it is something I did wrong and not a move away from Windows 98.  I just don't have the $300 to spend on a new operating system.

I don't know about the minimum OS, but aside from that:

You really should upgrade your system to something more modern than Windows 98. 98 is VERY insecure and somewhat instable. Microsoft is not supporting this anymore since more than a year. So you don't get any security updates or similar.

If money really IS an issue then you might try another operating system. There are linux versions that are quite easy to install and use. My sister is actually using Ubuntu. It is common disbelief that only professionals can use Linux. Of course there are many really intimidating versions, but Ubuntu isn't one. It has also a good userbase that can help out and lots of software is already prepared for the use in Ubuntu.

PS:
No, I am actually not selling my own OS. I use Arch Linux :-P

I believe win98 support was dropped, so now Windows 2000 is the minimum. We'll update the website, sorry about that.
