Title: What do you play?
Post by: zerohaste on March 28, 2003, 04:14:01 am
Anyone here playing another other MMORPGs or something similar while waiting for Planeshift to come out, or at least get to a more advanced state?

I used to play EQ... played it for 3 years, but it\'s grown boring.  High end game in the thing is horrible.

I played Project Entropia before this. It\'s \"free\". You don\'t have to pay anything to download it or play it. It takes a long time to get an account.  Once you get an account you can make your character. Character customization is so awesome in that game. You can adjust almost everything about yourself (ear angle, size vertical and horizontal position (and that\'s just your ears).  I recommend you never actually start playing, though. Just creating characters and then restarting and creating new ones is the best part of the game.  In the game there are amazing graphics and a huge world. You can also dance and have all sorts of  expressions.
Now for the bad parts:
the lag is horrible and unlike any other lag (you go forward, then jump back to where you were, also, it almost always lags when you\'re fighting a monster, so you die a lot and it sucks)
the game isn\'t finished and isn\'t getting finished at any noticable speed
and here\'s the kicker: although the game is \"free\", you have to pay real life money to get money in the game. 1 US dollar for 10 PED(Project Entropia Dollar), and it is impossible to do anything without money.  Now, you can get PED and convert it back into USD, but that\'s just a catch, because you can\'t really make money. (Everything breaks eventually and ammo costs money), so you waste more money on ammo and equipment than you get from the monster you kill. Also, since everything is really worth money, no one will give you money.  If you beg for two weeks straight you might get 1 PED which is enough to buy 100 ammo. Too bad you have no gun. In another four weeks you could get 3 PED and buy the worst gun in the game that does absolutely NO damage and just wastes ammo (it is good for training though)

Well, that\'s about it. Have fun! ;)

I played PE! it was really fun! I didnt experience any lag while playing though.... even when I still had my 56k modem. Heh Heh, I begged a lot in the game :D I actually had a guy give me 10 PED once! I was really happy! THE WORLD IS SOOOO HUGE IN THAT GAME! HUGE DOESNT EVEN COME CLOSE TO HOW BIG IT IS!!! IT ACTUALLY TAKES DAYS!!! THATS RIGHT! DAYS!!! TO GET FROM ONE SIDE OF THE CONTINENT TO THE NEXT!!! well, im finished yelling now. The capital is also really huge! I also traveled from the capital to, uh? whats that cities name again? something about zues? anyways I traveled from the capital to zues by crossing over the MT. in between! The mountain there is so freaking awesome! I loved climbing the Mts. in that game! I could go on and on about this game but im gonna quit now. GO OUT AND DL IT! ITS FREAKIN AWESOME! :D  :D

EQ is sooooo dull.  I am waiting for Horizons to come out, which looks to be a real return to rpg (remember roleplay?)  I also played Morrowind for a while, which I found to be an incredible game though I really miss interaction, and after a while just killing things nonstop became dull.

After all these years of trying different MMOGs, I still find the first one to be the best, UO.   It has some lacking qualities and it has an outdated engine, but the overall game play is more fun than most of the others.  It has the best crafting system and its constantly revamped skill system makes the game less \"level\" oriented than the others.   The recent AOS expansion makes all this more so.  This good qualities will hopefully also ring true in PS skills, etc.

Ultima Online (http://www.uo.com) , it was the first \"modern\" MMORPG (released in \'97 I think... there were earlier ones, but no one counts Meridian 69 or Dark Sun Online due to the low number of players).   It is not free ($10 a month) and is still very active (~400,000 players... not the biggest anymore).  UO has a base 2D isometric interface with 3D models for chars and MOBs rendered on top.  EverQuest was the first true 3D/FPS style MMORPG.

The only online rpg game I played (that was not text) was Dark Ages by Nexon for like half a year (it was pay) the only real reason I quit though was because I was too lazy to download the update :P (all these downloads are way too big now!)

now I sit and post on these boards and talk on AIM, that\'s all

Well, I\'m playing Neverwinter nights right now. It costs about 30$, but after you\'ve bought it you can play it all you want over the net. I\'m not sure you can call it a MMORPG since the servers (uses gamespy) takes like 100 PCs max (it\'s something similar to Diablo II, but a lot better), but the feeling is there. There is unlimited types of weapons, ammo, armors, worlds etc. because the game includes an editor (which is the most powerful and easiest to use editor I\'ve ever used) where you can create all kinds of items with their own unique attributes.
It\'s also one of the few games where there is RP (Roleplaying) servers. There is actually servers for all kinds of players.
You can play it in single-player as well and download an unlimited number of mods. the whole world can be manipulated with so-called \"HAK-paks\" allowing you to add your own sound-FX, music, textures etc. into the game. There is a lot of people who loves this game so there is a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of modules you can play, both MP and SP.
One of the best things about the game is that you can become a dungeon-master in a module you, or some other guy have created and create missions for other players directly in game!
For example, just like in Dungeon Keeper you can control NPCs or monsters whenever you want, add monsters, surprise PCs etc.
There is a lot of other stuff that you can do as well...

If you don\'t know about this game you have missed something.
I strongly recommend it! :)

*notices gronomists blatant rip-off of his child guild; SCOPE (aka Supreme Controllers Of the Planeshift rEalm)

http://www.planeshift3d.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=2982&boardid=18&styleid=2

please stop the use of your sig or I will be forced to call you a bootleger...Its not hard to think up an original guild idea instead of making slight changes to mine and then slapping together a cheap sig with photoshop 6

Ive played...

Ultima Online  (3 years): - To me before the radical changes of spliting the world into a pvp and non pvp server, it would have to be the best and most fun MMORPG i had played. Downsides however are small world, limited things to do besides monster killing and saveing for a house (however that was changed alot recently, and is changing now as well), Rampant houseing devlopment makes the World landscape look like the bronks \"For sooth where are the monsters?, this urban sprawl is blocking my vision\". pre- PvP split, you could Roleplay VERY effectivly (although few did), now however its not as fun. UO is no longer run by Origins, of Richard Garriot fame, since it was bought out by EA like every other game development company in existance, EA are EVIL!. the result o this buy out was that EA sacked all the GM\'s, and volunteer Guides and event planners... basicly screwing the game up :( . Then there was that lets go 3D expansion crap, and the now indeffinately halted Ultima Online: Origins (ie UO2) project, another thing EA deemed not needed... and it was looking so damn promising.

Most favoured character/s-

Gold Digger  :- almost GM smith/miner/Treasure hunter
Sherwin BlackBeard : - GM Armsman/Archer, dex monkey, Adept Rogue. Leader of the Deepwater Pirates guild.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
EverQuest  (would be pushing on almost 4 years nows):- While its not visual the best, and most of its content is geared to the 50+ (up to 50 its pretty much exp grind as fast as you can then find a guild), although i have had some fun and memorable groups on the way to my 50\'s. Its not all that bad. GM events are few and far between if not non exsistant, basicly L3wt hording (if you can get your hands on the good stuff) and Guild oriented. Fun to a point none the less, the Legends of Yekesh expansion relessed recently was very good, and was geared to the lower levels.

most Favoured Character:-

Qwetzulcoatal Nachubakania  59th Beastlord, member of the Keepers of Oak, the Rathe server
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dark Age of Camelot  (european version):- (about 4 months, since its my brothers account and he was playing it for a few months before me since he was bored):- Takes what is bad in EQ and makes it good, some imbalance, not as large a world, graphicaly the best on the market currently. RvR is just to fun, however people remake characters alot just to stay in the first battleground, since there is no point to high level RvR untill 50 and by then your to bored to actualy go do it :( .

most Favoured Character:-

Oskmire  19th level Fire/Earth spec Albion Wizard
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dransik  (Free Beta test):- not bad but EXP curve is HUGE, looks ugly though.

most favoured charatcer :- none/ no longer play

Dark Ages  (1 week trial):- Looks good, has interesting player government system, alot of people are very L3wtish in attitude, players have to be sponsered by others to become a member of there profession. Still pretty much kill kill kill, has lots of GM events however.

most favoured charatcer :- none/ no longer play
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Elemental saga  (Free beta, Development has been suspended):- From teh makers of Dark Ages, looked interesting but little character customization, lag was very up and down, and PKing was rife in the higher maps. Steep EXP curve

most favoured charatcer :- none/ no longer play

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
B]Xenimus[/B]  (Free trial):- Crappy looking, confusing to use and not very fun. Has been updated recently i think

most favoured charatcer :- none/ no longer play

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

NwN is currently my most favourite, but ive been screwing around with the Dialogue.tlk file due to makeing some mod\'s for it, and cant be bothered reinstalling, result is the patch update wont work... The Gamespy system is for getting your machine in contact with others machines they dont run servers, there basicly a matching service. Once you are connected to teh host server your looking for, gamespy has nothing to do with you :)  , so player size is limited by the machine owned by who ever made the gameserver, and some are running MMORPG style worlds, although most limit players to around 60, ie played on one that boasted 100+ but there was never more than 15 of us on anyway ^_^

Horizons WAS good, before they fired most of the staff and started to turn it into a EQ/WoW wannabe with most of the ideas that made the original so good now being relagated to the Dustbin (Goblins, God system, magic system, Lemurians, Race Wars etc). WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE DEMONS AND ANGELS RACE... now they have lace wearing goth wannabe vampire/demon things that smack of EQ Darkelves, and women that appeal to teh juvenial players with there unnatural jellies... Good game ruined by corporate suits and there demagraphics.

World of WarCraft is so far the best on teh upcoming market, its been in development for a long time and they will finnish when they finnish, and since Blizzard are there own publishers they dont have to worrie about the Suits at the top telling them what to do. Just have a problem with the majority of prospective players being Diablow L33tists.
