Title: Asking Community for help
Post by: zorbels on March 03, 2008, 08:26:11 pm
Hey PlaneShift players I have a request of the community and was hoping you could help.

 :'( I did something really stupid. I didn't back up my screenshot folder and copied right over it as I downloaded the new client. I have lost over 2000 screenshots that I had for my portrait studio. What I am asking for is a donation of any screenshots players have of the landscapes from different angles, different races with different poses, and screeni's of the buildings in all maps. I prefer first person veiw with very clean screeni's (meaning no shortcut, chatbox and other such things in the screeni) This is a serious set back for me and my roleplay so if you can donate even just one screenshot it would be very helpful. I appreciate your help.

Just PM me for my email. Thanks.  :sorcerer:

Thank you so much Socius Rockus! Anything at this point is helpful.
/me gives Socius Rockus a huge hug

@Community: I know there are those of you who are wondering why I don't just get one of those programs to recover the files. Problem is (1) I emptied the recycle bin right after I installed  :-[  and (2) I did recover some but most were damaged.

If you have viewmesh installed, you can load up any character model you want and take a screenshot in any angle and any animation :) Very handy if you load viewmesh fullscreen and change the background to a full black - that way it's easier to cut out in Photoshop or any other graphic app.

You could also search the screenshot thread to see if there are any suitable backdrops.

have you asked steuben yet?

he's got more screenies of all the landscapes than anyone else that I know of after all.

Steel Blue does not overwrite Crystal Blue. Your screenshots should be safe. Unless you took your entire CB directory and dumped in in the trash.

or you installed SB over CB [and deleted the screenshots folder]

Trust me, all my screeni's are gone. My husband spent a considerable amount of time trying to find them for me and used different types of recovery programs. He's the computer wiz and I am sooooo not. Otherwise I wouldn't be in this mess. :P  :'(

Thanks for the suggestion.  :) Already thought of it and I have been combing through. Unfortantly most are of weird shots and aren't really the style I am looking for. I have found a few though.

You should be able to just restore your computer's memory to a checkpoint made a few days ago. You'd have to redownload the SB client, but you should have CB back, along with your screenies.

No you wouldn't, unfortunately system restore doesn't store user data, only windows data so CB woluldn't be back.

I did the exact same thing in the version before this one. It was terrible; every single darn picture was gone. My head got bruised from hitting my desk so much.  :'( I feel your pain, sister.

OMG don't remind me! That thing drove me nuts. Although I have a dancing strawberry that can kick that bananas ass. :P

Sorry steuben. :(  I wish I could have sent off those screenis to you before the were deleted. Then at least I could get em back. Oh well at least you have this thread to "steal" some from. ;) Though you are more than welcome to it silly.

for my current library. and if you want to contribute the uppers directory should let you.

and i know he's probably throuwn this at it as well. but i've had great luck with "get data back" by runtime software. i've recovered from a hashed root directory with it, and got perhaps 90% of my musics library back with it as well.

Very nice collection, nice to see where that zip of pics i sent went, a place where all can enjoy looking though them [and not all shots there are mine]

 :) If it is really obvious, I am not getting it but how do I log in? I am getting a little box that says the following "To log on to this FTP server, type a user name and password." I don't have a password or user name to your server.

@ Everyone: Thanks for your help. If you get anymore screenis and would like to share them with myself and steuben please post them here.

/me does too.

If it is either the password or user name I would still need one or the other. I R confused. I don't know computers well though so that isn't hard to do.

[Edit] Oh duh .... could it be that it's user name "Screenis" Password "scr33nies" ?
[Edit 2] Tried it but it didn't work. :(

l = lower case L = login
p = password

using them allows you to gain access to steuben's ftp site.

EDIT response to zorby's edit:  i tried it and it worked just fine.  make sure you didn't make a typo. :)
