Mouselook sensitivity: I realize this has been mentioned a few dozen times in the past several years but it's still a problem. Who wants to play any 3D game using solely their keyboard to look around the environment at this time and age because that's what it forces many of us to do, unless you want to scroll left or right like crazy to turn around. Cranking up the horizontal mouse sensitivity to 100 is not cutting it.
-
Can you explain excatly what problem(s) you are having and maybe the operating system and mouse involved?
The mouse sensitivity, as is, far surpasses anything i can throw at it.
It regularly makes me dizzy with stock settings (Linux, USB cordless optical mouse).

Turning left or right is a very slow process (looking up or down is fine), I have to pick my mouse up several times to make a 180 degree turn.
Vista x64 bit, USB Logitech corded laser mouse.
Same thing happens on my laptop which has Vista x32 bit and a USB microsoft cordless mouse.
-
With linux here pointer acceleration 2x (default afaik), I can spin 360 degrees with 4 cm of sideways movement, 5 times around in the area I have for my mouse... just a standard budget scroll mouse.
That's a big difference, I wonder why.
-
It seems like there has been always a big difference between Linux users' mouselook and Windows' one.
I can tell at least some Linux users never had problem with it, but I run Planeshift under windows and for me is as well a pain to turn. Not only it is slow but it is also choppy, hence why I never use mouselook, even though I would probably love to play in first person, the more now that strafing is quick enough for it.
Turning left or right is a very slow process (looking up or down is fine), I have to pick my mouse up several times to make a 180 degree turn.
Note though that it's only slow when I actually try to make my character turn. Are you also having trouble while moving the Free Rotation cam?
-
I wonder, does the windows version use a hardware cursor or software? That could make a performance difference.
-
yeah its an age old problem for windows users. We've all had to just use our keyboards. And while it gets mentioned every now and again, it doesn't seem prioritized. I used to be able to move easy with a windows client, use my mouse like a FPS but since 0.3.12 or 0.3.13 (can't remember) the mouse gets lost when you move to fast and if I remember in discussions if you look carefully the mouse is really recentering.
Move too fast and the cursor flies out of the window.
Discussed in this thread here a few years back.

Would really like to see this solved for us Windows users.
A good idea would be to capture video of how it functions...
-
I don't see how the devs don't see this as a high priority, a lot more people use Windows operating system than any other one and we are stuck using the keyboard to turn and look around. The first thing you will notice about a game is how well you can move and LOOK around the environment and if that jerks then it gives a really bad first impression.

Well, I'd like to fix this, but I can't track it down as I run linux, and it works perfectly for me. And probably a bigger proportion of developers use linux compared to players... there are people that develop on windows, the only two I know are rather busy.
Having said that, I can't find any reports of this in the bug tracker (http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/), though there is probably one on the older tracker... just make a new report, as the old one does not have a search function, it has to be done manually. Somebody might find it's a duplicate, or the report might sit unnoticed for a year or so, but it might possibly get the attention of a windows dev sometime ;)
-
alrighty, I have generated a bug report on this issue and hopefully it will get some attention sometime in the near future.
-
This also was the first thing that really bugged me when I first logged in, game runs smoothly and looks great but then you hold down the center mouse button to look around and the screen craaaaaaaaaawwwllls along so very slowly. Looking up and down is fine too like the other's mentioned.
This is a major problem for me as I have a roughly 5cm horizontal space for my mouse to move in, playing FPS games I usually crank the sensitivity right up lol.
-
As a work-around, you can crank up the mouse-speed beyond 100 by editing options/mouse.xml
A quick test showed that setting it over 100 has actual effect in-game, for me. (Using WinXP)
-
this didn't work for me
in E:\Program Files\PlaneShift Steel Blue\data\options\ there is only a "mouse_def.xml" no "mouse.xml" I edited mouse_def anyway then went in game and clicked restore defaults and 900 came up as horizontal mouse speed but it was no faster then 100, same as if you just typed 900 into the options box it wont let it happen in-game
-
That's the default settings. Since you're using windows, your personal settings should be in %appdata%\PlaneShift\Options
-
For Vista x64 users the file is located in \Appdata\Roaming\PlaneShift\Options. I changed it to 200 (also tried higher numbers) and logged in and noticed that rotating the camera in free movement mode is now much faster but when I changed my camera mode to 1st person mode and 3rd person follow mode I realized it had no effect on my turning speed, still as slow as it was before.

Mouselook problem is exactly the same as in previous release and the one before it and another..
Nothing changed at all, so for reference you can browse through topics 1 year old.
At one release the mouselook got broken and noone checked in time what was it. It was working alright the day when CB came out and long after that.
But in the long history of planeshift the mouselook was never good enough to use it. Using keyboard was always faster and more reliable. This should change.
Untill then i probably won't play a lot, but also coz i need better comp i gues.
And when there will be some competence and thus challange in the game. (but considering it is apearently the last what people want in PS and the team will listen to that, I dont know if it is going to happen)
-
Thank you development team, this issue has now been fixed for us Windows users in the latest patch that just got released (0.4.02)
-
This was fixed by a contributor not a dev in this case ;) as you can see here
