Title: "take away" shop or booth for 'trade'-guilds or individuals
Post by: Zatarra on March 19, 2008, 10:33:35 am
A lot of people here already mentioned the wish for a shop, with which I totally agree.

But I want to add another idea for something like that:
* A shop in the shape of an "item"
  - which can be taken like a tent (or any other item)
  - which can be unfold like a booth (so people can go there and buy stuff)

If this would be possible, you don't have to keep a shop open 24/7. Because someone takes his shop home. And with giving many people such an option, you get naturaly formed marketplaces on places where a lot of people pass by.

aahh yes the other games I have played really encourages people being able to set up shop like that at random places. No swarming at all lol ;)

It is implemented already. It's called guild houses.

Maybe it's just me, but Could you explain why a guild house is a TRANSPORTABLE shop for INDIVIDUALS?

I probably didn't sleep enought, but to me this makes NO sense.

Donari wouldn't know; he's never in-game.  ;)

You mean, like, a giant inflatable potion bottle? Or chair? Or axe? Or something like that?

I've seen games that do this (Perfect World, for example). You have billions upon billions of these stalls set up around town to the point where you can hardly move around.

what winds up happening is that everyone and their dog makes a new character just to sell the junk their mains gather and these shopkeeper characters are left 24/7. At least that is what happened in Silk Road.

It's good to know some other games used it before. I say, learn from it: let's implement here what didn't work there.

Besides, it's not yet that crowded here. Although there should be made some "rules" (or whatever) about combining it with multiple characters. We could just let guild be able to buy such things.

and Donari: I know guildhouses already exist, we share one. But the present guildhouses are not suiteble for shops.
And when one shouts "i sell" at the auction, you can't see where you should buy, it's not consistent enough for a fundamental economy.

Yes, precisely. Like a giant infloateble item. I actually don't know if it's possible to make something like it, but hey, it's an idea.

I can't say you are going to get any type of "portable inflatable" item... but why not work with what is already at your disposal?

There are two items in game, for sale, that I can think of you could use to build a believable setting around a character who wished to have a "small portable area" to sell things.

Sacks... drop them on the ground with items in them, people can't take them because they're in your radius of control, but at the same time they can look with right click, and then view item.

Just like a vendor.

If anyone is going to do that, be very aware of bug #781 (http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=781). To summarise, never put any items in the sack after you drop it on the ground, they might not be guarded. Only put items in a sack while it's in your inventory.

That is not a bad idea at all, I noticed one can buy crates as well. Not for filling, but for building up a "shop".

An alternative to portable shops would be to have regular (maybe 2-3 times a week) bazaar or flea-market type events, at regular places.  I say 2-3 times a week so that the timing could be staggered to account for players in different time zones.  This would also be consistent with the medieval settings, since market day was a big event in most medieval towns.

A small counter wouldn't be a bad idea as an item. It's small and usable for setting up shops and it isn't much different from a table item.
