I am getting strange things on certain maps, some of which make the maps almost unplayable. The blackness in BD area has already been noted elsewhere, but I haven't seen the other two so just throwing them out here. Don't think they qualify as bugs, since they seem to be map specific not game-in-general, and don't seem to happen to everyone.
In Ojaroad maps, I get invisible trees and stalagtites. The shadows are visible, and the map recognizes the object since I can bump into it, but I just can't see it. This one is merely annoying, but since the trees and stalagtites are my landmarks, it does make getting around a lot harder.
The worst map is the arena. I get walls, abutments, pillars, MOBS, you-name-it appearing at any and all points, to the extent that I cannot even see where I am going. It's like the textures and geometry are just being randomly strewn around. If I stand at the top of a stair and look down, I can't even see the bottom. Worse, any change in the position of my character results in a shifting of all the graphic gibberish, so that walking becomes a kaleidescope of stuff flying about. Trying to walk the perimeter corridor requires dramamine.
Anyone else getting this, and anyone know of a fix?

update your graphics card drivers
-
Graphics drivers are up-to-date, straight from Nvidia, and are installed and working correctly.
Maps worked fine in previous version. And problem does not occur on new maps like Gurgontrid, only on old ones.

did you install the new game over the old?
-
It was fresh install. The Linux installer does not always cooperate if you want any dir other than /opt... so I just extract the files and build my own Slackware package to /usr/local/games.
I suspect some of the files got corrupted. I used the 3 Rs (redownloaded, repackaged and reinstalled) and now the arena is ok. The trees and stalagtites are visible too, but are missing textures (all have the blue and red checker texture - as does any lake/river). BD is still black.
At least its playable now... that's an improvement.

i have nvidia drivers 169.12 also
use slackware 12 based linux
and installed to /mnt/hdb3/planeshift
i have no graphic errors
(other than the fx 5xxx bug)

Well, it seems to be improving... although I haven't changed anything else. Water now looks like water, and trees look like trees (except in forest by magic shop, where they seem to be perpetually checkered). BD still black though. Are there changes on those maps in 0.4.00 or can I use the 'fixed' maps from 0.3.20?
