Obviously I'm new to Linux and Ubuntu. I'm on Gutsy 7.10 64 bit, and been trying to figure out how to go to the desktop so I can search through the chat log file. I hit some key combos, but it screwed up PS, changed the resolution and made it scroll around all funky. I had to restart the game. Just wondering if it is a PS thing that doesn't allow to switch to the desktop or what I may be missing. I found some posts on Ubuntu's site about installing a Windows Manager, which I guess Gutsy doesn't have one with this capability? Just wanted to get some help if others are using some technique to refer to their chat log file without having to shut PS down and come back in.
Thanks!

Well, you could always change it to window'ed mode in pssetup.

Windowed mode can cause various graphics issues on Ubuntu, in my experience.

Yeah I was thinking of trying the windowed setting tonight. It seemed to me that Ubuntu desktop shortcuts don't really work in PS, like hitting Alt Right Arrow on the desktop would move you to the next desktop if you have multiple setup, but while in PS it doesn't pay attention to the Alt key and moves your character to the right, if that makes any sense. I'll bring my resolution down a size and try windowed and see how the graphics hold up clicking between applications. If that doesn't work, looks like I'll have to try adding on a Window Manager like Fluxbox or Compbiz. I read I should check my advanced desktop settings, too. That chat log is a must when you need to type words verbatum just to complete a quest...

For me switching between Windowed and Fullscreen mode by pressing <alt>-<enter> works fine. And when the game is in windowed mode I can easily switch between applications with <alt-<tab>. But I'm not on Ubuntu, I use Gentoo with a KDE desktop (and no 3d stuff like compbiz). But maybe it's worth a try...;)

alt enter is the other way to "maximize" and "window" a window
alt-tab doesnt work for me in any game on linux
unless its windowed

Ah, I'll try <alt><enter> tonight and see how that goes. I tried windowed at 1024X768 resolution last night to live myself some room. I ran into problems trying to open the chat log file after I had PS open, though. I'd get a black background for any program I opened while PS was open. So I opened the log file before, set it up on one desktop, switched to another desktop and played PS on there. That fixed the black background in the text editor and switching between the desktops wasn't too rough, PS would flicker for about 3-4 seconds when I returned to it, but it worked fine after that. Not sure what the deal is with the black background when opening an application with PS open. Some graphics conflict somewhere down the line.
I'm a bit of a quest hoarder, so checking the log helps when you have about 15 quests going at once. The multiple desktop is a great feature, too, something I would have expected Vista to have, but nope, they don't know anything about innovation and surprised they didn't try to copy that feature like they copy so many other things. I always like to get my Msft cracks in... they're rich, they can take it.
