Title: (SOLVED) ubuntu 8.04 sound problem (pulse audio)
Post by: dclee on April 02, 2008, 01:44:29 am
well i get sound in player select menu.
but as soon as it gets into the game i get no sound at all.
i'm pretty sure that its pulse audio thats the problem .but pulse audio interacts at the kernel level.
so i'm not sure what i can do to fix it .by rights it should be working.
i can't understand why i get sound in the menu but not when the game loads.

turns out it was a buffer problem
set buffer to 350 in psconfig and i get sound .hope this helps for others with this problem

I'd like to try this solution, but I have a question: what is psconfig?
I can't find it. And by "find", I mean "sudo find / -name psconfig" returns nothing at all.

EDIT: just tried "sudo find / -name psconfig*" as well, and nada. Is psconfig a myth or what?

As I recall (I can't confirm since I'm not on my Ubuntu desktop right now) it's a configuration file in either the Planeshift directory, or it's in a hidden directory named .Planeshift under your home dir.  Incidentally, the latter is where your chat logs and quest notes are.

I'd also note that this solution didn't work for me.  I tried activating the OSS driver in the same config file. which gave me sound for a bit, but it always crashed the client after a short while.

I guess psclient.cfg is meant here, which is found in the directory where ps is installed.
