Title: Would Sparing Partners Be Possible?
Post by: Falirie on April 07, 2008, 08:12:47 pm
My idea was to have a combat school where players went, were assigned a room with an npc of appropriate stats and were able to train combat skills.

I was thinking there would be rounds.  A round would be won when npc or player reached 1 hit point.  There would be no death, neither player nor npc would drop below one hit point.

The next round would not start until the npc was back at full hit points and the player attacked the npc.  The winner of each round would be paid by the loser of the round.  Since the npc would be at least equal to the player, the npc would win part of the rounds.

If the player did not have enough coin to pay upon loosing the round, the player would be kicked out of the training school with 1 hit point and 0 stamina.  Of course, the stats would regenerate normally after being thrown out of the school.

It would be nice if the rooms were each separate instances, that way the number of players who could train at one time would not be limited to a set number of rooms.

PlaneShift already has non-lethal PVP for the purpose of having "sparring partners", among other things.

The Arena is sort of like what you are saying, you just have to find the creatures that is best fit for you. For the other things, no death and bets and all, PvP dueling is the way to go.

Just train with another player and use wooden swords.

Join the Imperial Guard. :P Or in other words, your suggestion doesn't need to be supported by game mechanics. Players can do it perfectly without anything having to change in the game.

By the way, Thom .. do wooden swords work now?

I thought so, they don't? If not, can you open a report?
edit: Just found out they're quest items. The debate on if quest items should be usable is still on-going, so better leave it. I'll prod some around.

Players could train without usingh wopoden poitions, should be kinda pvp duel, bu should stop instantly if a player's hp sould be below 10%

Can you rephrase that, please. I'm reading "Players could train without using wooden potions". I think that's wrong.

Don't worry. Just install Firefox (http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/) with the British English Dictionary (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3) that will automatically underline errors in the posts you are writing on forums. :)

And if you right click on the underlined misspelled  word will offer a correctly spelled option.
