I am looking for a method to zoom the camera out in the game as much as possible, to take a screenshot of entire area (e.g. Hydlaa Plaza) from the top. I tried zooming out with the keyboard but then it stops after a certain distance and I can't see the entire city in one shot. Is this possible? I think it is, because I looked at this picture: (I removed the pic because it may have been considered a spoiler)

You can make your own maps and ask about the technical things required to do so, but please avoid posting them here or any other public site. It's considered a spoiler. Please edit your post to remove that pic. Thanks.
Now, perhaps this can help: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32272.0

that pic is from the old ojaroad so i dont think it NEEDs to be removed but it could be as some is the same today.

Interesting. I thought that zooming that much would take you above the sky plane and ruining the view. I also thought that that picture was made by loading the map into a custom server or perhaps a 3d editor. Shows what I know.

Wow, the old Oja road... That was when I started playing. I remember getting so confused when it was replaced, I had to get a guide... which I hated to have to do because I was OOC lost, I'd traveled the road in-game many times.

*Morla looks at the map and raises her eyebrows.
Ojaroad? Looks more like the Bronze Doors road to me... Never mind.
*She flicks her tail and walks away.

There was a time the world was 180ยบ and -50% different. And then some before that too...
In those days 15pp rogue was the king of the camping party. Going to Hydlaa from Oja took 5 minutes. Silverweave shortswords, axes and daggers sold for 300k-600k and the Vespers of Laanx taught the players about the world of Yliakum. Ahhh, good days, not so long ago.

I'm still holding on to my silverweaves, waiting for better days to return :'(
And to become rich selling them

I removed the pic.
Now the server is down, so I can't test the instructions given in the link you specified. :'(

Thanks for removing the map. It was an old one and it sprung a nice walk down memory lane so I guess it wasn't that bad to have it up for a few minutes. We just need to avoid spoilers.
Good luck with your project.

It is possible to make maps like this with a simple client-side source code modification that allows you to zoom out further in-game.
Simple meaning, simple if you're familiar with C++, compiling etc,...
As mentioned before, the actual technical details of how to do this can discussed on this forum, but please refrain from posting maps publicly on the internet. However, as far as I know, it is perfectly OK to make maps for private use and for use within your guild, as long as it is strictly limited to that.
If you want to know more about compiling planeshift, find the planeshift compiling guide.
[edit] Found it for you: here (http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html) [/edit]
Note that in the guide, no guidance is offered on how to modify the source, and what to modify. I don't think it's a good idea to publicly mention on this forum what you have to modify though, moreover, If you know how to do it, you'll probably be smart enough to not blindly share the maps with anyone out of respect for the community. You can always ask for help in the #planeshift-build channel on IRC (irc.freenode.net)
Also, please be aware that you are not allowed to connect to the public laanx server with a modified client. Please run a local test server for that purpose.

you do not need to modify the source code at all to make the camera zoom out further. you just have to edit the correct xml file as stated above

I suppose that would be the easier/cleaner way ;D
Last time I tried something like that I just modified the camera code I think.
It's just my natural instinct to dig into the code i suppose. ::|

I think i remember that people made those 'maps' with a personal-private-server, some commands and bingo, screenie and tatda! :flowers:
