Title: Harnquist Quest Order (not a complaint)
Post by: Taniquetil on May 02, 2008, 01:27:07 am
Well, lately i have had a bit of a problem involving some of Harnquist's quests. I know there have been a few threads before complaining about quest logic and how the order was wrong, but i am not here to complain so i decided not to dig up those old threads. I have done my research, read through the threads, and saw that in order to get the Sword Making/Metal Working quests, you now have to complete two prerequisite quests. I don't understand how that fixes the initial problem, but it doesn't matter that much to me. My problem is, after doing the first two quests, i have accepted the sword making quest. As you know, it calls for steel stock, which i do not currently know how to make (IC). I will admit, i was stupid to accept the qust, but i was in a hurry and just said 'yes'. My first though was not of panic, i just assumed i could abandon the quest and ask Harn again. Yet, when i tried this i got the message that i could not abandon because this quest 'can only be done once'. Personally, i think i should have the choice of whether i want to permanently abandon the quest, as that would fix i problem and i would not think twice about missing out on that quest. If i am able to shut myself out of metallurgy, i should be able to shut myself out of this to bring me back to metallurgy. My question is, though, is there anything that can be done, to remedy the problem, whether that be abandoning the sword making quest forever, or just abandoning it for now, or letting me take two quests, or whatever. I don't rally care about the outcome i just want to work with some stock ;)

Well, I will say it straight out. The order of the quests is random, and that by purpose.
It really matter if you get the one or the other quest first since this - fortunately - is a multiplayer game.
Just ask some other player ICly what resources are needed and if they're willing to make steel stocks for you if you bring the required materials to them.
I'd say that 99% of those who are able to make stocks (which are many) will gladly help you.  ;)

Okay, thanks! I asked a very kind person about the problem in-game and was informed that i could not abandon it and would have to finish it before starting another. So, hopefully there is someone who can smith around! Thanks, again Arerano.

would have to finish it before starting another.

That issue has been solved, so you can take on more quests and keep going, with little to no problems. This was a major issue in the prior releases.

But surely not from the same NPC (Harnquist in this case), and that's what Taniquetil was referring to as far as I understood.  ;)

Arerano is correct

Well, ever since Rizin said in another thread that the multiple quest issue was (hopefully) fixed, I have been carrying 4-5 quests fairly consistently, even sometimes involving the same character.  So far (knocks crossed fingers on wood) I haven't had a conflict.  Good job, devs.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't done Harnquists quests yet, so can't speak for those specifically...

When it comes to Harnquist, some quests run in series (you need to take A before B) and some run in parallel (you can get C and D at the same time in random order.)

Don't forget you can always say no to a quest.
