Greetings, TheDeath.  I am afraid your posts are lacking in the information we need to help find your problem.  Might I direct you to a thread which show one what to post when they\'re announcing an issue, they will help everyone.

http://www.planeshift3d.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=1133&boardid=17&styleid=2 (http://www.planeshift3d.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=1133&boardid=17&styleid=2)

Give us that info and maybe we can decipher your issue.   :))

If I was a mechanic and you came to me and said \"My car won\'t start.  Why?\" how would I be able to possibly answer that?

I as the mechanic would want to know what kind of car it is, did it have fuel in it, did you have the right key, what kind of noise did it make, how cold was it that night, did you try to jump start it, etc.

Giving us a one sentence error with no description of the sequence of events leading up to the crash will result in exactly zero help here, because there is nothing for the devs to say other than to simply repeat for the 100th time the plea for more details about your problem.  If zero help is your goal, then by all means don\'t supply more info and I will continue to look at your post at the top of the thread.

Vengeance, that aint fair.
I work as a system administrator at a company, i have to take care of everything computer related within the company.
Now when people come to me with a problem with their pc most of the time i get things like; it wont send my mail, help! Or, he doesn\'t print. Things like that.
Now you cant expect the user to understand that he has to give more info for you to solve his problem. You are the expert, so you have to ask further and try to get as much info out of him as possible.
Cause most of the time the user doesn\'t know how to tell you things, you have to guide him a bit in giving you the tech stuff.

That is the way it is supposed to be.

Keldorn, I understand what you are saying and do agree to some extent.  My fianc? is a Unix Systems Administrator and has been for the past 8 years.  His main gripe about his occupation is when people expect help with little to no information supplied about their problem.  However, he does love his job.  ~_^

I must support Vengeance on this subject.

Example: Think of people in tech support/sys admin. as computer doctors.  When you go to the doctor because your arm hurts, you don\'t just say, \"My arm hurts.\"  Said doctor will try to get as much information from you as possible; i.e. if you strained it, what your diet is (heart related), if you spilled something on it (chemical burn), etc.

No one is a mind reader.  Period.

This is why, when posting technical issues, the support requires information because - just like people\'s bodies - all computers are different.  It takes about a minute to list out personal computer components and is not too much to ask.  We\'re here to help everyone.  We cannot assist anyone if they give us nothing to go on, hence requirements when posting.   :))

I hope that gives people a better understanding about trouble-shooting.

EDIT: TheDeath

You need to upgrade from PS 0.2.006 to PS 0.2.007.  However, you must download the new Updater from the main webpage (I\'m not sure if you have done this or not) before you can run the Updater.

http://www.planeshift.it/download/updater_007.zip (http://www.planeshift.it/download/updater_007.zip)

After you download that, unzip it into your main PlaneShift folder and overwrite the files.

Attempt to run the Updater.  If the updater does not run and you get an error message about \"MSVCP70.dll\" (because you\'re using WinXP Pro), go to this webpage and get the Microsoft .dll fix.  Drop said file into your main PlaneShift Directory.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp70 (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp70)

If you have already done this, TheDeath, then my apologies for prattling on so.  *crosses fingers and hopes it\'s the missing updater problem*

The Death: try running it from the command line and see what errors it gives you. then post them for the devs. Also, look around the forums to see if you see your error. Alot of people are having problems with XP.

type cd.. in the comand line until you are back at D:\\ or whatever your Harddrive is.

you need those two periods after cd

Then type \"cd\" then the path to where the .exe is for the game. For me i would type \"cd D:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift\\psclient.exe\" yours should be similar to this. Then once you get PS loaded to the menu screen exit PS and you will see the cmd line again! with all the helpfull info!

Glad to help!

did you use the run command or a dos type window? if you ran it from a window did any errors show up? if you used the run command then you need to use the \"dos\" type window
