What will Planeshift do to satishfy a guy like me who thinks the audio in games are VERY important?
Here is sound-related stuff I \"need\"...:
*EAX advance HD support.
*Fully EAX programed rooms ; When I step into that big ass temple in MB I want EAX to change to \"church style\".
*Very good use of multichannel ; Most developers think that surround speakers are just to hear where sound is coming from, WRONG!! It is very important that the soundtrack is positioned at the main speakers and that the ambience (birds singing, rain...) is at the rear speakers. This is the only real way.
Why should you include this things? Well there\'s not many who has the kind of hometeather audio front of there computer like me but fragzone.se did a poll with 8000 voters and 35% have some kind of surround (4.1, 5.1, 6.1) in there computer.

These are great ideas/demands.
I suggest you code them.
- Venge
-
Thats rude Vengeance! you know VERY well that you, the dev team, should be doing the coding! Come on give us a break!
-
Kinoss, I resent that attitude.
There is no difference between me and any other person here, other than the fact that I decided to chip in and HELP instead of stomping my foot and demanding uber features.
-
So I haven\'t helpt you mean? I have work hard on helping out in 3d section.
Actully I would code it if I had the coding skills, im more of a 3dguy but next year I will learn C++ and then at home I can specialize in 3daudio programing.
PS! No demands! Just Id?as, im not sure where you got demands from.

PS! No demands! Just Id?as, im not sure where you got demands from.
I think it comes from the word ?Need? as from the quote below.
Here is sound-related stuff I \"need\"...:
And the top of your post was not really ingratiating at all I mean look.
What will Planeshift do to satishfy a guy like me who thinks the audio in games are VERY important?
Venge said exactly what should have been said, you basically said ?what will you do to please me?. If it is lost in the fact that English is not your native language it is understandable and I am sure Venge would not have seemed as ?rude? but he was not, if you ?need? that in the game, get it done.
While I agree with you that sound is really important, currently I am not aware of any sound development people on our team or on the CS team. As such it is likely that sound will be one area we lack quality till someone with those skills comes on board. If it is truly a need of yours, we have a few possibilities?you can do it, you can talk a person who can do it into joining the team, or you can bribe a person to do it for you, you do something they ?need? and they do what you ?need?. But I too hope we do a great deal with sound.
But also remember a huge number of people play games with headphones on, and having a sound concept is of primary importance, but to say 5.1 or 6.1 is where we need to go???
It would be good but I question the need.
Second this game is multi platform so you need to make sure you have Linux and Mac standards in mind as well as others.
Just some things to keep in mind, if you find a programmer who might be able to do it.
However we do need sound oriented programmers so if you know anyone, we would be more then happy to have him/her on board.

I to would like some fancy sound as this is a part of the game that most developers look at the least and therefor is lacklustre in alot of games but I was thinking what if you put a pay pay and encouraged PS gamers to give some money to the project which could maybe pay to get a person/company to do the sound for the DEV team I know this is a free project and some of the DEVS may get a bit angry at one DEV paid so maybe you could hire a company to do it that speaxilises on sound or somthing i dunno just a suggestion

Nono, you guys don\'t understand me at all.
I really \"NEED\" good audio, with that I don\'t mean that you guys should instatly say -\"Ok ok lord Niber we get right to it\" I only mean that I like audio so much that I joke about it like it\'s an must have..
Isn\'t the quotes \"\" enuff for you guys to understand that, do I really need 10 smilies and drumwaves if I\'m not totally seriuos.
What I was hoping in this Topic was for some good audio programer in the Dev. team to brag about the audio features to someone who really cares.
But it seems there is non audioprogramer here. 2bad..
-
i understood it.
here\'s an idea, why not just delete the \'wish list\' forum if you are all so annoyed by people who actually give their wish list.

Sad but true..

Saying we need support for Dolby 8.9 16 speaker system is not a wish list thing. It\'s like saying we need lots of really cool animations. It\'s not an idea at all.
Everyone including the devs wants good sound and lots of cool animations, but those are obvious things and listing them out in more detail in the way Niber did felt like a demand to me from a petulant child wanting a candy bar.
Maybe I overreacted, but I don\'t think so.
Use the wish list for game play ideas and help make PS a better game. Saying we need \"more\" or we need \"better\" isn\'t enough.

\"Wish list
What you would like to see in the final game? Post your ideas and suggestions.\"
Sure it is a wish, Gameaudio done in the right way is truly a wish of mine.
Did my post simply say I want better audio?, no, I gave in detail what audio features I would kill for.
And if you gonna complain about giving into detail on the wishes that is exactly what another guy in this forum got complaind about becouse he didn\'t go into detail.
It is a wish, not a idea maybe but a wish for a feature.
Maybe the reason for you overreacting is becouse you have no intrest what so ever about surround gaming, you probebly haven\'t read what I said and just asume it was something obvious like good audio.

uh, Riiiight. That is just ridiculous! there is no difference between you and any other people here?!?! COME ON! THAT IS STUPID! WE ARE CHIPPING IN AND HELPING JUST LIKE YOU VENGE!! WE ARE HELPING BY GIVING WISHES AND IDEAS!! OR HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN WHAT THIS AREA OF THE FORUMS IS ABOUT!!
Sorry for getting all upset. But sometimes you devs need correction too!
-
If you think making demands is contributing, you\'re crazy.
At least Niber is trying to do some 3d stuff, although I haven\'t seen it yet. That is moving the game forward.
Crying here and getting upset and saying the devs need correction is stupid. Go \"contribute\" to the Star Wars Galaxies team then. I\'m sure they would love your help.

I guess the problem is here on insisting that features be put in place. And then when we say either no or not yet people get on the defensive. Perhaps there was just a misunderstanding of what Niber was getting at....
But I can see what Vengeance is saying as well. Having ideas like \"We should have a bigger world\" is like saying \"The sky is blue\" :) And again it\'s a matter of finding somebody to do this. If nobody is interested in doing it and it is not VERY important then it simply will not get done for a long time.
Now there are different impressions of what \'important\' things are. This is why there is the idea of doing it yourself. We\'d love it if people worked on their ideas. It may seem like it\'s rude to some people but in reality it is the way it works.
We do spend a lot of time working on things that may seem easy to do but actually require a LOT of work. Take for example the idea of ranged chatting. Seems easy enough on the surface but it is actually a VERY difficult thing to get right. But we feel that it is worth the time to do at this time. With other ideas we may think that they can be pushed back for a later time, or even better if somebody can submit a working implementation of it.
Kinoss, I don\'t think Vengeance said they were bad ideas or we are not doing them. He just implied that none of us are working on that idea at the time and there are no plans to work on it yet. Niber has a start on it so that is great. If he can continue to investigate this area then that\'s even better.
Again this is the nature of the project. As people with different interests come along and develop then different areas grow.
-
Thank you acraig for responding in a way Vengeance could never do.

Well back to the subject I saw on Crystal Space\'s (the engine for PS) website that it have support EAX, not EAX Advance HD but standar EAX is cool too.
I somewhat doubt I can be to any help coding some audio since I don\'t know jack about C++, but still I read throigh the webmanual but it seems that the EAX feature is to new to be written in the manual.
2bad since I find the stuff quite intresting.
