Hello all, here is a drawing of a Diaboli I've been working on for a couple of days now.
It's still not done, but I thought I would like to get some feedback. :D The main thing that I think may be wrong is that it's too dark to see well, so please tell me if it is?
I'm thinking of adding a dagger or some kind of weapon to her right hand, as it's a little boring over there at the moment. Though, if I add the extra decorations that are on the official arty thing... but I'm not sure if I should add them at all. ALSO! I'm not sure about the lightning/magic/thing that's in her left hand..
Any tips or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!
-
Nice! :)
Perhaps the portrait would be stronger if she were looking into the "camera" instead of to her left. And ya, the right hand could have a weapon. I think she could use whip
-
Very very nice. \\o//
I agree with Dajoji, a whip in her right hand would really suit her well. How about a cat-o'-nine-tails in brown leather, about the same colour as her hair?
-
 This pic is friggin awesome! Good job! I love the pose and I like that she seems to have lighting of some sort coming outta her hand. Semxy and dangerous! Me likes!
-
Thanks a heap, I took your suggestions and this is what I came up with!
Now this is almost the final version, I just want to go over it and make sure all the shading and such is correct. So if you see a problem area, please point it out to me? Thanks again!
OH, do you think I should add a background...? :-\
-
Absolutely great. \\o// I think that the whip balances the figure very well and I can't see any problems with shading or such. I'm not sure about the background, but if you have to add one I would think that it should be a dark and simple one, which does not distract much from her. Maybe a dark cave or a dungeon with rough stone walls or dark fiery mountain range with lava and such would be appropriate.
-
Great interpretation. I love the colouring. I wonder what it would look like with bigger horns? You know, to make it even more distinguished from a differently-coloured ynnwn.
-
Well, I think that larger horns would look a little bit "silly". We don't want another Illidan Stormrage (WoW), do we? ;) I think the size of the horns is just right.
-
Tada! I'll call this the 'final version,' but if you spot something that's just not right, please tell me!
I fixed up lighting and redid the eyes again, as they were bugging me. (Along with a few other fixes here and there.) Though, the eyes seem less engaging now. They were looking right at you before, but now they kinda look a little lower. I'm not sure if it ruins the work or not, what do you think?
All in all, I'm rather proud of this! \\o// I've started work on a male Diaboli as well, so I'll probably put what I'm up to with him tomorrow. It'll be at a lot more sketchy stage than what I started showing this drawing at though. :sweatdrop:
-
Well, the previous version of the eyes gave her that mean look, which I liked very much. Now she looks a little bit too nice to me, but if you like it better that way it is perfectly fine. I'm really looking forward to see more work of you. Keep it up!
-
Awesome! But the horns can never be long enough :P
Maybe the male Diaboli would have longer ones?
-
Great job!!! This looks awesome! I kind of agree with Kaityra about the eyes, but honestly it looks great either way :D
I hope to see more great artwork from you!
-
Good job! I like the eyes on the second pic. They are kinda looking down on the third so it looks like she's gonna whoop a rat :P. Can't wait to see more.
-
Thanks everyone! I tried fixing up the eyes again, and I changed the colour of them too.
Do you think this looks any better?
Anyway, here is the first sketch of the male as well. :) I probably wont give you another update of him for a couple of days, as I'm a bit busy during the first half of the week. I'm about to drop dead right about now, so g'night...! *falls asleep on keyboard*
(http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg70/Sathanna/diaboli2copy.jpg)
-
Yay! Longhorn! ;D
Looks good already! :D
-
The green eyes had a little more "glow" to them and gave her a "cold" look if you know what I mean. But the purple/red eyes match her suit better. It is really hard to decided which version is better but I would go for the green eyes. But please, it is your picture and it has to please you and not everybody.
And of course the male needs these bigger...horns. ::) I mean, what would he be without them? :P And it seems that you plan to place the horns of the male more to the side or the perspective misleading? I have noticed that the female has pointed ears while the male will get rounded ones. I like the pointed variant better because it adds more to the alien nature of the Diaboli. But I have to admit that I have no idea which version is correct in regard to this race.
Will the male Diaboli remain weaponless? If not I could imagine him holding a flaming sword in his right hand and a spiked buckler in his left. Well, just some thoughts...
I'm really looking foward for the male to become alive by your talent, so please keep us updated. :detective:
-
 Oh dear, you're right Kaityra, the horns are a little off. They're meant to be in the same place as the females. Thank you for telling me, I probably wouldn't have noticed!
Another oopsy is the ears... I meant them to be pointed, but forgot to do it. When I was first drawing the female she didn't have pointed ears ether, but I added the point after closer inspection of the artwork on the race's page. Though that's kind of silly, as my art differs slightly from that one's details anyway... oh well. :P
And yes, he'll end up having a weapon of some sort. I'll see what happens. :)
Long horns for the win. ;D
-
Great work, Satha! Keep it up! :)

I had so much trouble with the legs, it's not funny. :sweatdrop: I'm still not sure they're okay, so please tell me what you think?
By the way, do you guys like me showing the drawings in this way? Or is it annoying and I should just stick to more major points, like basic sketch, half way done and finished, perhaps?
-
I really like the dynamic pose. The legs look a little bit too muscular and "thick" compared to the upper torso too me, at least for a male. But on the other hand he is a Diaboli...so you probably won't have to change that. Everything else looks fine to me. :)
-
I like the somewhat shifty smile he has on his face! Keep up the good work >o)

I think his pants are supposed to be a little baggy. They look fine to me.
-
Yeah, the pants are meant to be a little baggy. If I can get the folds looking right on them, it should stop the legs looking too thick. With colour and shading, hopefully it will be okay. :)
Thanks everyone! I should be able to show you an update tomorrow or the next day. I really appreciate the help and encouragement, thanks again! :D
-
I'm rather enjoying shading this one. ::)
I've been drawing this one the exact same way I made the female. It's a rather new way of doing things for me, actually. Starting from the black and working in the white. It's kind of fun. :D Only really works well for these guys, as they have black-ish skin anyway... Perhaps if I was to start with a skin coloured base? Or just add in the colour like i do with the clothes... *ponders* I'll have to do some experiments, I guess.
Smudge tool?! :o
-
:woot: It's coming along great!
I can see a sword in his right hand. Ohhh! How about some tattoos? ;)
-
Oh, tattoos are a great idea!
Anywho, sorry I haven't shown you guys any updated pictures recently, but I just got a new computer and I haven't gotten around to swapping all the files around yet. :sweatdrop:
I'll update soon. :D

Satha, just take your time. As Planeshift-users we are used to be patient. ;)
The shading looks very promising. The light seems to come from behind him, so the front appears to be quite dark. I'm not sure if it will be too dark in the fully colored version, especially if you choose the same dark skin as the female.
-
Tada! Man, it's been crazy lately. I defiantly took my time this time, I think. :P I just got myself a super duper new computer, and installing everything I needed from my old one was time consuming.. that and trying to finish a bunch of projects at school... crazy I tells ya!
But now I have a two week break so... hurah!
The hair is still a lot lighter than what it will be, and the face is giving me a bit of trouble. What do you think to the tattoo? Tis just a swirly pattern at the moment... and it may or may not change... I'll see how it goes. I tried adding in something for him to hold but that was giving me a bit of trouble as well, so I removed it for now.
Rather rushing to type this out. I have to get to bed now, it's rather late here.
-
That's really coming on nicely :)
keep up the good work
-
I've really enjoyed seeing the evolution of your drawings, Satha.
I see what you mean about the face, he looks a bit too friendly for my liking in your last version.
The tattoo is looking good, maybe if it ran up to his shoulder as well? though it looks fine as it is, imho :
-
It's coming along great, Satha. Congratulations.
A tattoo from his left shoulder to his chest would look good too. Oh! And are you planning to color the tattoo or leave it gray on black?
I would also soften the expression line between the crease of his mouth and his nose. It kinda ages him a little and since the rest of his features are fairly young looking, it kinda clashes.
Can't wait to see more.
You should do a Klyros next! I'd love to see your take on that. :woot:
-
Thanks everyone! :D
(http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg70/Sathanna/diaboli2copy6.jpg)
I would have done more but I forgot to save and... my art program crashed. :sweatdrop:
I also fiddled with the tattoo a bit, its likely to change a lot before the end still.
Dajoji, you're right, I'll probably soften up that line a bit in the next version.
And, Beniel, I'm glad you've liked seeing them progress. I kind of thought it would be nice to show people how I work... perhaps it can even help people a bit. :detective:
-
Wow, that is one fine looking diaboli *drools*
;D in all seriousness, you are an incredible artist and i cant wait to see what the next version looks like \\o//
-
I REALLY like your drawing style. The tattoo looks brilliant and the shading is very smooth and sleek, while still retaining a wild, tough feel. I can very much envision an amulet clasped in the right hand, though I don't know what medallion would adorn it. Certainly not religious. :) Perhaps the same pearly jewel as is placed on the front of the belt? Also, it came to mind that the tip of his other horn appearing over the top of his hair a bit in front of the closer one might add depth to the head. Not sure though.
All in all, I can't wait to see the final version!
-
Very nice!
Is it wrong that I think the female Diaboli is really really hot? lol
As for the male, he looks a bit 'boyish' to me, he has a very Brad Pitt look to him. This isn't exactly critisism, just an observation ;o)
-
I love the tattoo and the hair. Good job, can't wait to see a finished picture. :flowers: The only thing I am confused about is the horn. Is it me or is it misplaced?
-
Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much! I just moved house recently. Now that I have a stable internet connection again, I can update with pictures more often... and actually play some PS. I've been mucking around with the colours heaps, and this is what I have so far.
Ohcrud, I see what you mean by Brad Pitt... I'll have to change the hairstyle a bit maybe. While I'm at it, I'll fiddle with a horns a bit too.
I've been improving lately. I think this drawing will end up being a lot better than the other one, because I'm incorporating all the new stuff that I have learned. :) OH, that reminds me, does anyone here use Painter? I've been meaning to give that a try, is it any good?
-
Methinks you should give him a mohawk. And ear rings. And a lip ring. And a spiky collar... And a leather jacket, without a shirt underneath... ;D
-
Nice details on the hair, Satha. Good work. I like the color scheme you're working with (the boots, pants, hair...). Keep it up! :)
-
(http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg70/Sathanna/diaboli2copy8.jpg)
Shazam! Pow! Wapp!
Yeah, that's just how awesome this drawing will be when It's done!
I think he looks a lot less like Brad Pitt now, wouldn't you say? He looks a lot more... sophisticated? Something along the lines of that, anyway.
-
Nice, I really like the work you've done on the hair and face. :D
I don't know if you are still working on the pants or not, but i feel they look a bit too shiny/bright, though that just might be me :P
-
Great work Satha, it looks incredible
\\o//
I wanna see you do a Kran :)
-
I don't know if you are still working on the pants or not, but i feel they look a bit too shiny/bright, though that just might be me :P
Yeah, I wasn't sure if they were too bright or not. They kind of remind me of a shiny leather, or maybe even copper... :sweatdrop:
-
Wowsers! I knew I shoulda done art instead of chemistry. ::) Don't think I could ever make such beautiful things. Definitely take a look see here: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26581.0

Long time no see, my friends. 8)
It's been a couple months, but I'm back with a few improvements.
What do you think? I've started to dream up a background for it and I tried giving him a bag to hold... not too sure about that one though. Any critique would be GREATLY appreciated! It is what helps me get better! That being said, feel free to bask in the glow of my awesomeness. ;p (well, ALMOST awesome.. but I'm getting there, I hope.)
It's rather exciting, I've almost finished my two year course in Professional Game Development, Art. I'm hoping that once I'm working, during my weekends and such I'll be able to give a little help with PlaneShift! *hopes some more* Maybe I'll post some of my 3D work someday for you guys to see?
Feline Prince, I remember having a look at that before.. hum.. maybe I should give it a go. The only thing really stopping me is I don't know where to start... maybe I should just work my way down the list? *ponders*
-
Looking very nice and coming together quite well.
-
Never thought about blonde Diabolis, but it looks plausible and really nice :D
-
I quite like the way this picture is progressing, especially the improvements and details you've added to the fabric and hair. Did you go back and work purple into the picture? I think the color variety renders the diaboli more powerful and striking, as well as a bit mysterious perhaps. I do wonder about the light area around the ear. Will you darken it or shade away from it to separate it from the hair?
Anyhow, can't wait to see more. Keep up the great work!
-
Good job, grats! :)
-
I'm torn on this matter. The picture is purely made of awesomeness. But i kindof drooled all over my homework staring at it so... I dunno what to say. Good job ?
