HYDLAA SUMMER FESTIVAL
28-29 JUNE 2008
The Call of Destiny would like to propose a Summer Festival to be held in and around the city of Hydlla as a Community Event.
We welcome our friends and neighbors to join us in making a "fun" packed, interesting, inventive and successful Summer Festival.
In order to help build and plan an exciting weekend event. The members of the Call of Destiny has volunteered to host two large events in and near Hydlaa.
[Realizing, that there is much concern among players lagging inside of Hydlaa. We must keep in mind that Hydlaa is a rather large city with many areas that can be utilized effectively to hold many small events at the same time. As well as several small events or stands during the same time period as a large event.]
[In realization to that we would like to ask that larger events within the festival be scheduled at different time periods. ( with the schedule provided]
We challenge the community to reach into their imagination, and creativity to come up with some interesting and fun things to pack into the weekend so that there is something exciting to see or do throughout the entire course of the weekend.
We look forward to seeing you at your event/stand or at ours.

Hydlaa Summer Festival
28-29 JUNE 2008
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
If you are interested in doing something but not sure I have a few things that could help.
Most of the simple games that we played as children can be applied the animation of our characters.
Many small Carnival, festival, and fair ground games can be accomplished with a little ingenuity
Other - Picnics, catering, community marriages [if any priest or priestess wants to do a group marriage], gambling, brawling, etc.
In a Festival environment many small one item booths can be set-up throughout the city in small groups.
Activity booths that require the use of die to establish a win such as gambling, Milk bottle stand while the player rolls to knock down the bottles will need to be spread out some.
Anyway you get the idea, so lets have some fun.

Hello CoD members,
This is the public announcer of MoM, we support your idea of holding such a festival, and we will probably send some of our fighters to your championships! We would like to state only that it is prohibited by law to hold battles inside any city walls [and also causes too much lag for some, as you said yourself]. We hope you take this in consideration and change the location to for instance Oja road 1 since this is already one of your battlefields..
Thanks for hearing us, and keep us and all other participants updated
Announcer of Masters of Move
-
Thanks announcer, I placed a more clear location of the second match location. We are looking for a better place near Hydlaa that maybe better. If we need to take it outside the Hydlaa maps to reduce lag to participants we will. So we all have to be flexible there in case we need to. We'll see you there.
I will use this post to show updated edit that come from questions asked in game
- edited a clearer location for the two matches that will be held for each tournament
- edited to make clearer that Ranking [highest skill level of main weapon
-edited Anyone who qualifies as Amateur that wishes to enter as a Pro may do so, noting that once entered as Pro will be considered Pro for the tournament and cannot compete in the Amateur Tournament
-edited weapons used shall be of choice, ranking will still count as the highest weapon skill level.
-edited Location to Pool of stealth Oja RD 1, 300 meters past the Hydlaa map gateway[tunnel] [ It was tested by several players, Thanks to all who participated]
-edited that there will be two matches at a time until the final round
-edited Pro lvls 50-100 to read 51-100

-
Love it.
Thanks Eurac.
If you work out a general location, and/or time I will post it in the schedule. At least a drawing time and location if you can.

I have talked to several people on the Festival. I wanted to add that a Festival is made up of many small parts as well as larger attractions. We hope to get a few more events into the schedule. If you would like to participate and cannot commit to an event of some type. But you are interested in setting up a sales/ game stand in Hydlaa or in the market, and you are unsure of the time or place that you will hold it. Then place an add of your goods or the type of stand you will have.

-
good idea, though i am curious: does Yliakum have seasons?
At least one book in the library references "the gentle change of the seasons" or something similar, so I would say "Yes".
-
 Bravo COD You bet that your friendly clan PoC will fight, also I will supply music and poetry throughout the day in Keda-El's Tavern free wine and ale will be on every table as well as the bar so feel free to stop by for a free pint curtoucy of the Prophets of Chaos.
I will also like to participate in the amateur division, I have the money and the will even though I am a bard I will still do combat

"At least for the pints I will." He chuckles.

Guild Recruitment
Outer ring of the Hylaa Plaza
Saturday 28June,Sunday 29 June 2008
1300-1500 GMT
This is not a Hosted event.
[Any participation or organization depends solely on the individual guilds and its members]
It is an open opportunity to advertise your guild and to answer some questions about it. If you wish to use it. The outer ring of the Hylaa Plaza gives easy access and visibility for someone looking for a guild. As well as a guild looking for members.
-Use a book to give a brief about your guild, and/or some in-game contacts.
-You can send a member or take turns in the time period given to advertise and answer any questions that another citizen may have about your guild
- You can take the opportunity to recruit there if you wish
- It offers citizens the chance to speak to you or other members of your guild
- It offers citizens a place and time to seek some answers they may have about your guild and others
- If you do set-up a recruiting station, remember you are selling your guild and it's ideas to the public.
There will be others doing the same. So make a good impression.

Sponsers wanted:
The Call of Destiny would like to ask the community if there is someone who would be interested in organizing,Hosting and sponsoring a literary contest for the Festival.
with classes such as, Poetry, songs, and stories. Written and/or performed.
We would also like to know if anyone would be interested in organizing, hosting and sponsoring a community picnic of some type, to include food and some games.
And from bouncing around the forums I know there are many, many, more great ideas out there that would really make this a Festival weekend.
As much as we would wish to volunteer for more, we have debated over the last couple of weeks on what we could cover [ due to Time zones of active players and those darn RL issues] and decided on the Tournament and the market. Individual members may come in, like myself at different times and do a small stand, or to participate in other events. But as a guild the preparation and hosting of those two events have limited our time and efforts to their execution and success.
I will volunteer myself to help in some way and/or fashion if you need assistance putting something together, or setting something up
We thank you for you interest and support

Why must you hide Elupe Udo with Poetry, songs, and stories? You got yourself a sponsor pleas PM me Jaycol on what you need of me and you got it within reason as I am a very poor Lemur I'm afraid.
-
Wow, DemonHunterSK. I didn't know you were a primate, but that explains things. After all you are a Lemur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemur)....or did you mean your character?
And now to my share of constructive criticism. I like this idea! (Almost) anything that adds to the athmosphere is a great idea, and a summer festival would be just the thing for a medieval town to do.
-
Umm...right if your trying to insult me it's not going to work. If I was some gruff dwarf perhaps I would be just as rude as you, but us Lemur's are sofisticated people. But anyways yeah I support the idea. Now, i just hope I get the day off or can spend most of the day around down helping and singing for the masses.
-
DemonHunterSK, I think Donari's trying to say you're being a little too IC in a place meant to be OOC. :P You're not your character when you're on the forum...
-
Haha sorry I get to involved in character they start to meld with me in rl...thats why I am such a good rper sowwy :whistling:
-
\\o//Thanks again DemonHunterSK!
I appreciate your offer, and will wait to hear from you.
** In other news: To answer a question. "of what would make a good event" I shall answer "Any"
A festival is a gathering and/or ceremony of a community. Usually to mark the end of a season, or a beginning, or to mark a great event new or old. It helps to open commerce and trade. Offering opportunity to meet new people, share new ideas, trading and selling of a variety of crafts and wares, testing skills in contests. From the middle ages into modern time it offered the young events of the coming of age, to be taken into apprenticeship or to meet a prospective spouse. It is made up of many events from the main attractions to a simple beverage stand. Some normal, some strange. Many being step up if only to take your money. It has honest vender's and crooked ones.
To further answer that question. If you think it would be a good idea, then yes it would be.
PS has given us the tools to have fun, so lets have some fun. [A big "Thanks" there PS team for many hours of amusement]

Well, I don't know if I will be able to log on during the festival So I probably can't do the literary part. :'( but I can certainly provide food. Only thing is, I usually don't have enough room in my inventory to store the food. If I had someone who could hold on to it, I could make the picnic food ahead of time maybe. :) Pot roast anyone? :D
-
i think it's great that you would do that Illysia.
It is till early yet and I'm hoping someone will be interested in hosting a picnic type event. If they do, we will find you some storage for your cuisine. Lets wait and see what this
weekend turns up.
But I do hope you be able to come to the Festival, even for a short while.

The Hydlaa-Rally
I (i.e. Luzino Lemingo) will be holding a Hydlaa-Rally on sunday. 10 questions about Hydlaa (plaza area, library district, arena, dungeon and sewers) and its residents await those interested to join. All answers can be found by walking around with your eyes open or by asking around. So especially for those new to Hydlaa it's a fun chance to get to know your new surroundings a bit better. But of course everyone is welcome to join the fun!
Starting fee is 60 Trias. You will also need to get a blank book to write down your answers (can be bought at the library for 50 Trias).
Out of all participants who show up with the correct answers, 3 prizes will be drawn:
1st prize: 10,000 Trias, 1 Battle Helmet, 1 Glyph, 1 gold ring
2nd prize: 8,000 Trias, 2 standard short swords, 1 Glyph
3rd prize: 5.000 Trias, 2 standard sabres, 1 Glyph
Date: Sunday, 29 June
Timeframe: Questions handed out from 13:00 to 15:00 GMT
Latest time to hand in your answers is 16:00 GMT, but you can show up anytime before when you're done
Winners drawn about 16:30 GMT, depending on how many participants I need to deal with :)
Location: In front of Jayose's Library in East Hydlaa. (for practicality as both the participants and I will need to buy books)
note: You can sell your own book and the one you get from me containing the questions afterwards, so even if you don't win you won't suffer a huge loss. Thought this might be worth mentionning for the newbies who don't have much money yet.
-
I'm looking forward to the Hydlaa Summer Festival, it could be a great event, I hope more citizens become involved, i will certainly be promoting the Festival when i can.

Festival Marketplace
Sunday 29 June 2008
1900 GMT
For the market at the East Gate area. I know that it is a big area, but in the interest of all who participate. I know many like to display their wares. I think it would be best and add more to a real market place setting if we used the entire street from the Library to the Gate opening. It will allow each vendor more space and comfort, as well as allow for less lag as we will not be all congested together in one group. It would ease sales by reducing the chat overrun of each other. Providing more role play opportunity while making a sale. It would allow customers the luxury to walk around to search and shop for a better price and/or item. Making it more fun for all by adding a little competition to draw in customers.
* If you plan on attending the market. Place an Advertisement below with your name, and the type of Wares or crafts you will be selling.
Be creative with the fun you create!

Good Luck CoD from HoG.
Please do something else... I don't like draws,(bit boring) and neither does Camazotz. But Tzaen might think differently.
How'z about a drawing competition?I doubts it would be good though.
-
Using maps as canvases?
That takes ages to get a decent pic, but Monala might give it a shot if I manage to log in at the right time (and don't get lag too much D: ).
-
Using maps as canvases?
Well? Actually I meant maps, as maps. Because there a few good map makers in-game.
But, I like the canvas idea, It would be interesting to see the results. If your game I'll add that to the categories. In fact I will add it to the categories. ;D
-
How'z about a drawing competition?
hmm.. not too sure anymore. Maps don't work for me, ps crashes as soon as i open them. Off to the in game bugs forum
-
hmm.. not too sure anymore. Maps don't work for me, ps crashes as soon as i open them.
[use the keys indicated at the top of the map, not the map buttons]
Hmmmmm...? Let me rephrase that.
"THIS MAP IS CURSED"
Jaycol shouts as he awakens from another magically enticed slumber.
" Everytime's I touches it with me quill, it puts me ta sleeps." He says bewildered.
"An' whad be dis strange ghostly writtin' dat appears every time's I passes me quill over the top o' da map?" He asks himself.
"F2.....? Hmmmm...?" Jaycol says looking at the map confused.
"Guessin' I needs ta take dis back ta Jayose. He may knows sumhin' about it?" He states questionably.
"Welp! Wasn't lookin' forward ta goin' all da way backs ta Hydlaa, but I reckons I got no choices in da matter." He says to himself.
Jaycol rolls up his map. Angered at his disposition he places it back into it's case. Locking up his office, he leaves the CoD guild house half mumbling to himself.
"I aints neva goin' ta get dis stuff done if all I do's is run around like a waddlin' newcomer!" He says as he slams the door behind him, and heads toward the front gate of Akkiano.

Let's see how long the upgrade will take and I will then have to check if the answers to the questions have changed due to the new release. I will post the further handling of the Rally once we all know more. I have the names of all participants and I will be in touch with you all!

* Well now! That was simply not on the schedule, Jaycol says and frowns.
The Call of Destiny would like to give a special Thanks to the People who held or scheduled events for the festival.
We would also like to thank everyone who for taking part in participating, and we hope you had fun doing so. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you again in the future.
We plan to reschedule the last events, and/or repeat the last day of the Festival as soon as our schedules allow.
Again our thanks to everyone for making the Festival possible.
My Sincere Thanks, My Friends
Jaycol

[Although I missed most of it, I would like to especially thank Salona and Illysia for their efforts on the picnic!]
-
Thankyou to everyone who participated (it was great)- and did anyone buy the charcoal mushroom?
What do you say about a winter fair, Jaycol (for winter, not now)?

[Just curious: Does Yliakum have seasons at all? If already discussed, sorry, could you link me?]
-
good idea, though i am curious: does Yliakum have seasons?
At least one book in the library references "the gentle change of the seasons" or something similar, so I would say "Yes".
Disscussed in this thread already.

No, I still have your book "Charcoal Mushrooms" Camazotz.
As far as seasons go, there may or may not be a normal set of seasons, but worth investigating. However there would be in some areas more ideal or planting times, that would regulate those areas as seasons. Like the planting season, the growing season, or the harvest season. Summer being the growing season, would signified the end of the planting (spring) season and the end of the work that it details. Same as a harvest (fall) season would show the end of that detailed work, and getting the product to storage or market.
So,... in my view there would some resemblance of seasons, even if they were not actually [Spring, summer, fall, winter]
But! that's just me.

No, I still have your book "Charcoal Mushrooms" Camazotz.

How about Eathon's?

About the Hydlaa-Rally
11 people joined it, 1 managed to finish it in time (an early starter), some others had just started a few minutes prior to the shut-down. So there's no way to complete the rally as planned as I have no way to make sure everyone stays in the time-limit now.
Anyway, I'll try to be around ingame next week (from July 7) and see if I can get hold of you there. If you like you can still come to me for checking your answers and give you a hint on what might still be wrong or just so you can take a quick glance at my notes to compare with your own (I can't post them here cause they'd be considered spoilers). I'll be hanging around at my guildhouse (Order of Light, right next to the library) so we can easily meet somewhere in Hydlaa.
The prizes are still up as I don't need the stuff I offered so I'll draw winners out of those I manage to get in contact with who want to complete the Rally under these circumstances, date for that will probably be July 13 (sunday). I'll give you details when I contact you ingame.
Too bad it had to end like this. But huge thanks to those folks who took part. I hope you enjoyed it a bit and maybe even learned a bit about the city (I did when I researched all this stuff).

Thanks again, Luzino
I have been gone the last week. If you haven't finished up, let me know I'll give you a hand with it.
Even though I was busy at another event at the time. ( mainly to give directions to your location) I know that there was a good response to your event. Your efforts and interest helped a lot into making the Festival a success even though it was temporarily set back. But, that I just take that in stride, there are other days. We may just spread out the last few events until the server is more stable with the update. I hope that we can work together again in the future on something. I feel that you have, and can offer more to the fabric of the game. As a player, everything that is offered by the players in-game leaves a building block for others to work with, and improve upon. So, to say in short your work was not in vain. It was appreciated not only by myself and the members of the CoD, but also the many players that participated, were planning too, and at least had the option too. So keep it coming!
Fun= Toy + imagination [+update] = more fun ;D
Our thanks to the PS team for their hard work and efforts to keep things coming and going. Every addition is always a welcome experience.

Have you read my book?
If so, what did you think of it?
