Title: Constant Freezing
Post by: jdk82 on June 08, 2008, 09:08:14 pm
Hi all.
First of all, GREAT game so far, I'm loving it  \\o//
However, I have an odd issue with the game freezing frequently. When it does this, I can unfreeze the game by unplugging the power cord, but the game will freeze again usually within a couple of seconds. This makes the game fairly hard to play as I have to keep one hand near the power cord and constantly unplug and replug it.  :'( I have observed this behavior on both Fedora 8 and Kubuntu Hardy. My graphics card is an ATI Mobility FireGL V5200, but under the proprietary ati drivers it is identified and used as a Mobility X1600. The laptop itself is a Compaq nw8440. If anybody could offer any suggestions as to how I could resolve this issue I would be eternally grateful. Thank you guys in advance, and keep up the good work!

So you have to unplug the power chord for your laptop? o.O  Sounds like it could be a hardware issue, though you might want to check into power management features...

I've tried disabling acpid and shutting down kpowersave but that does not do it. Also, the screen freezes but the sound does not, so I"m starting to think that the ATI power management scripts are causing this? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could accomplish this, or any ideas on what else could be causing this issue?

I fixed a bug which caused a freezing every few seconds, so maybe this will be fixed in the next update (soon).

Alright, that sounds like my problem. Is the fix available in cvs yet?

It's in svn yes, but currently incompatible with the server.

Alright, thanks for your help, I'll wait for the update to be released. Unless anybody else has any suggestions regarding this issue? Thanks again.

I've had numerous issues with my PC freezing as of late and I wasn't very sure what triggered it.

Solution for Linux: Disabled powernowd daemon and stopped it by hand in the running session.

Solution for windows:
Win XP is not affected
Solution for Vista: delete Vista  :D Sorry, couldn't help myself... I suppose it has a powersave feature in there somewhere that can be turned off.
