Title: Glyphs
Post by: Shaman on June 11, 2008, 02:28:44 am
How are glyphs described in this game? Are they tattoo markings, or very flat symbols you hold in your palm when casting spells? What?

Here (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=26652.0)'s a little info on that.

Glyphs are solid items, appearing or growing at random spots occasionally (more rarely though). The holder can make use of their power channeled without having to grab them, having them somewhere on his body is sufficient (like in a pocket).

Shaman go read the books in game, you will never get the maximum potential out of your rping until you have done so.

I've read a lot of books already. I shouldn't have to read one to figure out if what I'm holding in my hand (or supposedly holding in my hand, anyway) is a magical tattoo or a physical object. That's all I was asking.

There you are with the shoulds and shouldn'ts again.

You are the kind of player who is going to want to know the settings well to push the limits, I only asked that you get to know them first.

When we take the time to write some lore to explain these oft asked questions you will have to forgive that we expect people to use them.

I've read plenty of books and used them to the best I can, but this just seems like the type of question that seems better answered openly than in a book. We wouldn't have to read a book to know that a chair is made of wood, or that bread is edible.

Edit: And yes I read Karyuu's post, which cleared it up for me.

Your examples are not magical glyphs that few are supposed to have in depth knowledge of.  :sorcerer:

I'm not asking for in-depth knowledge though. Glyphs might be magical, but they're common, and it's a simple question asking about whether we could touch a glyph or if it's imprinted on someone's skin, or something. :P

If you can use it from your inventory and move it around within it, odds are it isn't imprinted on your skin  ::|

You could drop a glyph and see what they look like on the ground... Might not be the final answer in the end but it's a good reference until these details are sorted out in due time.

I know it seems like a dumb question, but when I think of a glyph, I picture those cave-wall drawings from ancient times. :P

Part of the problem is that theory and practice do not agree. In theory they can be found just about anywhere occurring naturally while in practice they all seem to come from NPCs. Of course this is a reflection of the state of the game and surely will be dealt with in time. Unless the theory has changed since I last looked.

A glyph is just a symbol while a magical glyph is that symbol magically made into an object.
