http://www.planeshift.it/register.html
that should be the url you should be using.

Please tell us where it says use http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register (http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register) for registering an account.

At the bottom of the login screen in the client, actually. At least it does for me, though it appears that the text may simply be cut off. ::|
Additionally, http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register/newaccount.php (http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register/newaccount.php), the page linked from http://www.planeshift.it/register.html (http://www.planeshift.it/register.html) currently returns a 404 not found error, as does every other page on laanx.fragnetics.com, up to and including the root page.
I hope this issue is resolved soon. Planeshift looks really promising. :)
Edit: And not more than two minutes after I finally give up and post about the issue, the site returns from being down for over five hours. That's my luck.::)

We were upgrading to https. The server now answers with both methods:
http://laanx.fragnetics.com and
https://laanx.fragnetics.com
All http links and emails are now supposed to work again like before.

The certificate of the https is unfortunately not really valid (self signed)

Of course it is because the authorized ones have to be paid for. Kind've hard to do with zero budget.

I agree. I had hope that there might also be a valid certificate. Establishing a trusted connection(https) to a partner that I cannot trust (not valid certificate) is just a bit... lets say strange for me :P
Anyway, I just wanted to mention it. (If your online banking shows invalid certificate - don't proceed ;) )
