Title: Juicy Little Bug
Post by: Shaman on June 30, 2008, 02:22:39 am
I reinstalled the game, ran the updater, then right when I open the game, it says "Failed to load effects" and crashes. :/

Edit: Now having a problem where I can't get off the loading screen. The loading bar at the bottom of the screen fills up most of the way, then completely stops moving toward the end and freezes like that.

Problem fixed: Apparently the Windows 32bit file is broken. I downloaded it again with bittorrent and it works just fine.

known issue and will be fixed in the updater in the next several minutes. in your ps folder to go art/effects and rename flame.spr to flame.part .

Another juicy little bug:

Now when I open Planeshift, the loading bar at the bottom of the screen fills up mostly and stops right before reaching the end, then just stays like that. I can't get off this screen. -_-

Well, I'm running a Windows XP, however I've searched high and low and don't know what my system specs would be exactly. Every time I did a search, it just pulled up enormous lists of files, hardware listings, and etc.

Edit: Not sure if this is it.

Hm.. what Tanner suggests is probably more common to linux users:

He means if you have opened a shell (Start-menu --> Run --> cmd), browsed to your planeshift folder (cd\ , then cd <foldername>), and finally in your planeshift folder executed psclient - forgive my ignorace, but does running PS in a shell on a Windows XP make much sense at all?

Running it in a console is not supposed to fix the problem, but let you see any error messages :)

Hello, I installed the last version of Planeshift (after a long abence) and i have the same problem with those effects.
I tried to rename flame.spr into flame.part . There I have a problem : the file is named flame.DDS, not .spr...

Then I told myself "nevermind, let's rename it flame.part". I did. It doesn't work so far...
And the updater has nothing to download.

Can you help folks ?
Thank you...  :innocent:

I have this exact same problem. I am getting the error message "failed to load effects", so I found this thread after searching.

But there no flame.spr in my installation.  How should I proceed, to fix this error? :)

Thanks,
EoN

Thanks for your reply.

I have already tried that.  These are the steps I have taken so far:

1. Downloaded installer & ran installer.
2. Tried running program, didn't work.
3. Updated xml file to change 'false' to 'true'
4. Ran the updater
5. Tried running now, and am getting the error "failed to load effects".

Any further troubleshooting/fixes I can try?

Thanks,
EoN

try running the updater with the "CheckIntegrity" option
