You have a choice of the four known religions to worship openly. Worshipping any other god in the open, or being found to be doing so in secret, is (would be if allowed by game mechanics) punishable by severe law.
This just got me thinking. Why is Dakkru allowed to be worshiped out in public? The religion pretty much involves killing in the name of Dakkru, and enjoying death. These types of people in society would resemble psychopaths and serial killers, so why would they be allowed to roam freely worshiping Dakkru in such ways? Unless my perception of Dakkru wishing to sacrifice the mortal world to sustain the Dark Crystal is wrong, that is.

There are other ways to worship Dakkru that could be considered more legal. A gladiator or guard could work for Dakkru. They might not always be killing but the people that they do kill they could easily do for the reason of worship and whatever other reasons. Gladiator I'd say is a definte for those who worship Dakkru but aren't rping to be a murderer.
Dark mages could worship Dakkru just for the fact that she controls the Dark Crystal which increases their power. You could worship Dakkru for having created Death Realm and say that she is the reason people get a second chance at life. Lots of ways to twist it up so that its not all 'evil'. I'd say she simply likes evil (thieves, tyrants, etc) best because they are the ones who'd most likely give her the most tribute(souls).
Oh, and I don't think she's sacrificing the mortal world to sustain the Dark Crystal as much as just making them pay a price. If you wanted your character could twist that and say Dakkru is just. She's helping keep the crystal from possibly harming us all and our sacrifice, while taken unwillingly, is to aid her and we should all do our part. :P

Still, a goddess that rules over the death realm, no matter how you twist the words, would have an evil appearance. That's just how public eyes see things at first glance. The educated may try to educate others in that matter, whether she really is evil or not, but people would still see what they believe at first glance, which to me seems like it would be a cultist religion that should be banned from society.

Maybe there are important people who worship her, and who would be dangerous for the government to cross by banning the religion? Or maybe Dakkru would be offended if her worship was illegal and prevent people from escaping the Death Realm. She might give a lot of people the willies, but that's not necessarily going to get the religion banned.

I could come up with a counterpoint for that, but I think it would be a spoiler. :/

I think the problem is that your taking death itself as evil. To us maybe death is evil. But to the gods death would be a natural occurance in mortals, just like life. If people lived forever then we'd all be gods and there wouldn't be a point in worshipping anyone. Death is just as important as life and its no more evil than giving life is. Sure, as the person who's friend died or who did die you'd think the killer was evil. However, the truth of it is that we've all got to go sometime. Dakkru to me is sort of like Xiosia, a god who sees over a natural occurance. The reason people like killers and such are more worshipped might just be because they are helping that occurance along.
Edit:
Just stole XilliX's quote from the Dakkru's Will guild post
personally I would not call Dakkru evil, but then most humans of a contemporary rl mindset would call me evil. ;)
Ps is outside of such common problems of evil.

Why?
Because she is a Goddess with a visible presence to the people in Yliakum, thus entitled to any worshipers that will follow her.
Why?
Because that is how the gods work.
Why?
Sorry, you don't get the 'why' of that. ;)
So, it is ok to be a murderous, cutthroat bastard if I say I worship Dakkru, and can not be punished by the law?
No. You will be punished for breaking any Octarchal law, including murder (any killing of a citizen outside of a duel). Just as you would be punished for murdering someone 'in the name of Talad'. There are killers in all four religions, and none will be tolerated by law.

In the past many deities were worshipped that were connected to death, warriors and killing. Look at Hades, Ares, Osiris, Odin, ... The death realm being a world of it's own should at least make you doubt whether dying really is such a bad thing or maybe better than living? ;)
