To the decently large proportion of Canadian players and developers out there I wish you a happy Canada Day!
May you get drunk, watch fireworks, get drunk, hang out with friends and/or family and get drunk, or whatever it is you do on this day... Like a parade or something... where you get drunk :P
-
first of all i'd like to make sure you all understand that i like canada, and canadiens... and hockey.... so don't be offended when i say I HATE CANADIAN BACON!!!!!!!!! wtf is up with that crap? its not even bacon, its ham. canadian bacon is a huge fake, canada should be sued for false advertising.
-
I've never had Canadian bacon and I don't know any Canadians who have... I think it's just something we throw at the rest of the world to keep you guys away from us :P
Montreal Bagels and Poutine more than make up for it ;)
-
What does Canada day celebrate exactly?
-
That just made me wonder...is there some kind of liquor made from fermented maple syrup? If so, that'd be awesome. Yay tiny maple-leaf-shaped sugar treats.
oh, and canadian bacon rocks. Lotta protein (http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/maple-leaf/canadian-bacon-6-oz), yumm.
-
I'm sorry, but as national dishes go, poutine is nothing to be proud of. Gravy, cheese curds and french fries are all excellent, but that is an unholy combination.
-
does the U.S. have its own food...? italians got pasta china has... rice? mexicans eat tacos.... americans just steal other people's food
-
Americans eat babies.

ugh i know i hate fast food
when i eat burgers its cuz i made them myself on the grill
or cuz i got them at johnny rocket's or what used to be fuddruckers
but BK nd Mcdonalds make me puke
especially the canadian ones
-
I liked when on one commercial, there were people in the line at a fast food restaurant saying "I'll take an order of thunderthighs, and some blubber". That's pretty much all it is/gives you.
-

Actually, that's an urban legend. Chinese and Italian pasta evolved independently. But yeah...I'd think burgers are the American traditional food (at least as far back as the 40's or 50's). Maybe macaroni & cheese? XD Mmmm, heart attack.
-
Oh, and don't forget roadkill.
-
apple pie is still my favorite... you gotta problem with apple pie and i'll kill u
-
i don't eat babies... shaman does not have a good point....
burgers.... from like germany maybe? idk i did think of one for sure though, apple pie.... and maybe turkey
We definitely didn't invent the apple pie :P The hamburger is American, despite the German sounding name.
Americans invented bottled soft drinks! (Although I think the actual carbonation process was invented by the British?)
-
Strawberry rhubarb imo
...I mean apple. Apple all the way. :)
-
well who did invent apple pie?
-
John Applepie?
they always name stuff after people that made them
-
I think maybe the Germans...or at least some apple-pie-like-food. o.0
-
well who did invent apple pie?
The English!
-

Americans invented the ice cream sundae! And red velvet cake. (And German sweet chocolate cake, actually. The "German" was a dude's surname.)

There's Maple Flavoured Liquor which is awesome (especially on ice cream ... *drool*)...
Canada has poutine and assorted maple flavoured goodies, neither of which I'd consider a national dish and Americans invented Hamburgers and probably a few other things, also not something I'd consider a national dish :P Most other things in Canada and America are just imported inventions. Welcome to being a melting pot.
Oh, happy Cadoras is great day, Canadiens!

What does Canada day celebrate exactly?
it celebrates the founding of Canada and the release, albeit in part, from the English government to be a sovereign nation.
Canada did not get complete sovereignity until after the WW1, At which England gave Canada a statue that stand in the legislature that represents that very freedom.
Any other Canadians that wish to correct my history please feel free, This is just part of what I have retained and collected since High School.
-
hmm... weird, i'm no canadien but i always thought they were a french possesion not english, just because many speak french though. no history behind that misconception i guess.
-
ah i thought they were still under (limited, very limited) control from england?
they were never under french control, the country
the french had control of new france, which went from quebec all the way down to louisiana
but they sold it cuz theyre civil war back in france didnt leave them with enough resources to control that area
-
Kind of. France owned Quebec for a while and then the English took it from them in an awesome offensive (after a few failed attempts), after they lost Quebec city it was basically over and Canada was under british countrol. The Louisiana purchase (named after a French King ;) ) did not include Quebec.
The States owe more to France than Canada does. We just have a large amount of families left over from when the French owned Quebec.

The hamburger is actually a German invention, originally called hamburger steak. After the recipe arrived in the US through German immigrants, the Americans just flattened it a bit more and put it between bread and called it their invention. Also, soft drinks were invented by the Arabs and the British.
But, you do have dibbs on turkeys, as that animal is native to your continent. However, the first people to arrive in the Americas were the vikings and they may have eaten some turkeys, so even this can be debated :P (Then again, the natives were even firster)
But now, to Canada! The land of craft dinner and internet monies.

Canada Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_day) used to be Dominion Day and is the anniversary of the day that Queen Victoria signed the British North America Act giving us local rule. It was still theoretically under the dominion of the queen and rightfully speaking a Dominion of Great Britain until the 1982 when Pierre Trudeau got Queen Elizabeth to give us control of our Constitution.
Basically it is the day when the government spends our bread to give us circuses. Marie Antoinette would be proud.
