Title: Installation Error
Post by: Trublu on July 03, 2008, 06:50:11 am
I'm getting the "This application has failed to start because OpenAL32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."... which everyone else is getting. I tried altering the updaterinfo.xml file, but it won't let me save, "file path error" junk. I tried installing v 0.4.00, but I can't get the installer to run on my computer at all for that version.

Any other suggestions?

When you downloaded the 0.4.00 version did you download the .exe?

I had the same issue with the 0.4.00 version.exe.   What i did was downloaded the 0.4.00 torrent and then it installed for me.  You can find that torrent possibly on piratebay or other torrent sites.

good luck.

Yeah, it's the .exe. Vista even does that annoying thing where it asks for permission to allow the installer to go, but after I press "allow" then there's nothing. I'll see if I can find another copy, though.

In vista, you have to

Try running the updater in administrator mode first. Instead of left clicking to launch, right click and choose Run as Administrator.

You might have to run  the installer in admin mode too.  I dont know for sure, i run XP.

I tried running the updater, but I knew it was futile due to the post saying that the xml file isn't written correctly. My problem is that it won't let me modify the xml file.

To edit the updaterinfo.xml file you have to right click and press edit, or open with.  Then open with notepad.    Thats what i did in XP, i believe it will be similar in vista.

save as... the xml to desktop then drop it into the program file, and replace the old one.
