Is it just me or are there others who frequently have to wait an excessive amount of time for the forum to load? This session took at least 30 seconds to respond with data. My browser contacted the forum immediately but then sat there doing nothing "waiting for ...hydlaa.com..."
Traceroute seems to indicate the problem is at the server end:

Of course the hops seem to take a while near my end the trace never made it to the server but I suppose it could be disabled there.
Any thoughts?

I've noticed it as well, on many occasions.

I am starting to think that it has something to do with insufficient database threading. Maybe someone could gauge the database accesses. If the forum uses the same database server as the bug tracker and I believe they are on the same machine so it seems likely, then perhaps it could be opened up a bit. Perhaps though it is more a hardware memory kind of limit rather than software configuration. Of course it might have nothing to do at all with the host machine. I do not know.

Since ACraig pays for forum hosting out of his own pocket, I doubt the that bugtracker and forum are on the same box. I want to lean towards the idea that the bugtracker is hosted on the same server that holds the rest of the ps stuff that fragnetics is letting us use, but you'd have to ask acraig to be sure.

I suppose that is possible neko, though I find it rather unlikely as the bug tracker: http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/ is on the same domain as the forums: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33007.0. You could be right, the host might have some weird setup. It might even have redundant servers providing the same content, although hydlaa.com seems to resolve to only one ip.
All the same as he is paying for hosting and not co-location he likely does not have control of the server so there might not be much that can be done about it anyway. I am guessing this domain does a fair amount of throughput in a billing period.
I am not meaning to be overly critical, just relating something I have noticed and wondering if anything can be done or even if a cause can be identified. There are certainly many factors that can come into play when electrons span the globe.

The bugtracker and the forum both have the same IP address. Also I've seen them both fail simultaneously.
EDIT: I just asked acraig, he said the bugtracker and the forums are both on the same box.

meh, wouldn't be the first time i've been wrong . :)

If the forum is on a shared hosting account, it usually means that other services on the same host are getting spikes in traffic. I have seen this behavior with the forums many times. No biggie, it always comes back. Not sure that it is really a negative anyway *laughs*
