Someone please help! I've been waiting for hours.
-
Greetings.
Could you please give us details at first? Your operating system, your hardware, your kind of internet connection, if you have an aggressive firewall active...
UDP connections (to and from a distant port 7777) must be allowed, a console command "ping laanx.fragnetics.com" must work.
__
BTW: "Help!" is the most useless thread topic possible.
-
Windows XP
( Not sure on the other stuff.. )
512 mb of ram, non-agressive firewall.
I just need a step-to-step on how to fix it, im not a computer genius,
-
Are you sure the server was not just down?
-
I had just tried it.. like right now.
-
What do you mean - not sure?
At least your connection type should be known to you. Do you have: Analog modem / ISDN / internet via TV cable / DSL / SkyDSL (via satellite) / ...? Somehow you will connect to the world-wide computer network.
Most techniques are rather simple. Even more complex scenarios (like being in a NAT network connected via 2-way satellite system) work without any tweaking. But there are a few with quirks. For example, your DSL modem (if you have DSL at all) was set up to block unexpected packets. Or if you have a 1-way satellite connection (with phone-line upstream): There are techniques which don't support UDP at all.
There are dozens of older threads where people "can't connect". You will find there how to check if a "ping" to the server works.
__
Important: Load the page http://laanx.fragnetics.com (http://laanx.fragnetics.com) and look if the server is reported to be online. If it is not working, you can't connect, of course.
-
Okay, i run on DSL High speed internet.
-
Help please, its been days.
-
Does the "ping" work?
And what kind of DSL modem/router do you have? Can it be configured to block UDP?
Get a network specialist to you. How, do you think, shall we help without coming to your house? Possible reasons for this issue can be so different.
-
No, i try to ping it and it says it not a valid file.
-
File?! The "ping" command does not print such a kind of message.
It should look like that (my messages are in german):
C:\>ping laanx.fragnetics.com

i think the problem is that you can't open command prompt for some reason, right Jeaden?
Does anybody know if you need administrator rights to do so?

What do i do?!?!
-
Someone PLEASE help, i've been on 7 hours. X_X
-
Please stop that whining. It doesn't speed things up. People look into threads when they look, not when you cry.
What are 7 hours. When PlaneShift gets updated, sometimes players had to wait a week until the server went public again.
__
Windows XP ships a "ping.exe", not a "ping.com". I guess your system has been hooked. Get a good antivirus, and get a good malware remover. And get a specialist in your town, that he can sit at your desk.
-
screw it guys, i give up. I'm going to find a better game, thanks for the help. But it was useless.
-
The problem is that something is blocking you from connetctin to Laanx. As displayed in the other thread by you getting a 404 error when trying to connect to the laanx server's IP address (The thing both Acraig and I gave you (the string of numbers). If you cannot connect to it in your web browser then I can only assume that you have that page (and the server) blocked by some software or by your ISP. The software could be the firewall but you claimed to have disabled it (if that is even possible without Admin rights which you claim not to have). The other option would be some kind of NetNanny software. If that is so, then speak to your parents, the owner of the computer, whoever set it up for you, or the company you bought it from.
We are only able to help up to a certain point, we can give instructions and advice but if you are unable or unwilling to heed the advice or follow the instructions we cannot help.
Take care, I hope you find and enjoy that 'better game'. X-/
-
It's not the game which is bad. It's your system. Get someone to fix it.
-
I certainly hope the "better game" does not end up being spoonscape.
-
What do i do?!?!
I use Ubuntu myself, so all of the Vista'ish querks are way outside my experience.
But from the command prompt can you use any of these programs?
tracert
netstat
regedit
tasklist
I did a quick google search using "ping.com is not a valid win32 application" as the search string and found some interesting things. (Took me about 30 seconds total)
From this website (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/557405.html).
When I go and launch command prompt through the start menu and type in anything legal like "ping iinet.net.au" without the quotes. I get this error:
C:\Windows\system32\ping.com is not a valid win32 application
followed by a message in the prompt (not in a dialog), Access is Denied
Any help on resolving this error would be great.
Ok, I found the cause of the problem. I installed ad-aware in addition to spybot and ran its scanning tool and when it finished nod32 told me I had a virus, I deleted it on the spot and my computers running fine now.
Im changing all my bank passwords now.
Heres a screen of the alert.

It was a rootkit trojan!
If you even come back to read this. Good luck with the rootkit.
