I am trying to play planeshift on a laptop and it is running really slow, as in the chat doesn't come up for about 10 seconds. I know you are supposed to be able to play on a laptop and it is a rather new one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And please don't give me some page about how to fix it because I have read them and want something that I know has worked for someone.

Okay the important distinction to make is the difference between client and server-side lag.
If your screen is jerky, aka you're running and he appears to me teleporting from place to place, that's client lag and is totally different from server lag.
If you type in chat, and as you say 10 seconds later you can see your text that means the server has very high ping times. It's probably the server's fault and it'll be better in an hour or so, but it could also be your fault. Bittorrent usually raises pings a bunch, so try closing that if it's open.

No, I think it is me because I have a friend who plays on this tricked out computer and it runs smooth. [unless the server is down but I know how to check that.]

Hello,
can you tell us a few things about your computer? How fast, RAM, what Operating System... in general everything is helpful.

Also you can check the pings on the site by going Start --> Run. Then type "ping laanx.fragnetics.com". That will show how high your pings are, 300 is average usually. If your pings are normal and you're still having this issue, it's a hardware problem. If your pings are high, it's a server/connection problem.

Just to add it. A "/ping" in the chat window of PS should do the same ;)
