Well, it all began when my internet went wonky. I had just got .401 working, so I was pretty disapointed. But I only wept for a few moments before I got a great idea. "Let's start a webcomic!" I've read a few before, so I had a basic idea of what I was doing. Of course, a few things got in the way. I found time, and even a medium to do it on! MS Paint! But then, what subject to do it on?
I mean, I could have done great, brilliant roleplays, and epic storylines that capture the essence and spirit of PlaneShift. But there were a few things wrong with that. First, I had no idea how to do epic. Second, there was no way I could capture the spirit of PS, the optimism, the hope, without feeling let down by my work. I'm heavily biased, which you will understand soon enough. So, I decided to drop epic, and pick up my other option. Not all roleplay goes to plan. In fact, most of it can really suck if not done correctly. So I decided to draw rps gone wrong, storylines in ruins, players at their worst. In a light tone, of course.
Now, let's get this straight too. These people will never be glorified. We are simply observing, and maybe even learning a few lessons on how not to play. I pulled many lines directly from rps I've heard in game, and a few quotes from things I've heard about. Some lines will even come from my experiences watching my 10 year old brother playing RuneScape. In reality, repeating these 'rps' depicted here, you will probably be pretty unpopular in game. I would not recomend repeating them. :P
This comic is in the same spirit as XilliX's nooby song. It's not an attack on PLers. it's not an attack on bad RP'ers. Because it notes everyone. PLers will be shown as they are in game. And RPers will be shown as they are in game. Sometimes for the good. And sometimes not... The names are those of my ALTs, if they aren't made up.People take these things too seriously. I've notived that silly topics get a lot of hits. Maybe you'll like a silly story with pictures...
I will edit this disclaimer as I need to. Because I've seen much of the good on this forum, and many bad sides. In reality, I expect several, if not many, flaming posts and PMs. I know that this will need to be dynamic. And I know that this may not make a load of sense, but I am poor at orginising long posts. I made a new account for the comic, simply so that, if it tanks, the reputation of my real account will be untarnished.
Yes, I know, the strips may look bad, but Paint can take a hell of a lot of time to work. In fact, the first story arc, the one here, I did in the wrong file. As a result, the pictures are pixelated and bad. Oops. I fixed it later. A story arc will contain around 30 strips, by the way. I'll try to post them whole, but It takes around 4 hours to do an arc. So sometimes you'll see just a bit of an arc at a time. Today I'll post the first arc, and in a few hours the second one will be posted, no matter what opinions I hear. After that, I will pay attention to what is said, and continue from there. I have about 20 arcs in my head, so the only matter is finding the time. The first 2 arcs will be the worst. I promise. These two will introduce the 6 main characters, their emotions and plans, and their quirks. After the silly and forced introductions, the real thing will start.

The Enkidukai thief is very depressing, and very funny.
But there's something odd about the mage, looks kinda like the Devil.
Harnquist looks either possessed, drunk or dizzy.

Funny, funny... I notice you're using the names of actual characters/players there. I hope you got their OK. If not, I'd suggest you change the names.

:oops: All but 3 are my ALTs. When I was in Hydlaa, a Ballser shouted obceneties. I never saw him again. I figured he was banned.Gweedol is an inside joke. I know someone named Guiniviere, and for some reason I always accidentally call him Gweedol. It doesn't make him happu. But his personality is similar to this Gweedol. Eldemar, well, I saw him, and met him, and he said a lot of innapropriate things. I never saw him again. If you guys are upset by your depiction, just PM me and I'll change the names for you.

I heard Eldemar was on earlier today, so I'll see if he's on tonight. If he declines he use of his name, I will switch it. If I can't find him, I will change his name on all of the strips that mention his name when I post the next arc. The problem is that I just like the name Eldemar. ;)
Is there a Gweedol in game? If there is, I will change it.
Ballser is no longer a name in the game. I guess the real one really was banned.

Maybe you could use OOC-names (which no player actually can have ingame..) like "Evil Overlord", "Lord Evilthief", "Over Evillord", and "1336 Evilzhaxxorz" (the 6 being an intentional 'typo')
I wanted to start "my own comic" long ago (but I can't draw at all... and I'd try to find a way to have as little drawing work as possible ^^)

Arerano: It's usually quite difficult, but some writers find artists for their comic. I'd offer my services, but I have my own completely non-PS-related webcomic that I've been trying to get off the ground for four years now My muse is a fickle little (censored) sometimes >_>;

Toox, you are amazing. And I know for a fact that Eldemar doesn't mind, he thinks he famous now. Eldemar- "lolz yo wut up vannaka the kaka! did you hear i got a starring role in a webcomic. !!! /me rubs gobble nards in vannaka the kaka's face" and very accurate portrayal btw.

Yup, I got confirmation with him in-game yesterday. He just loves the publicity, and said that he loved the way he was portrayed. So all of the names are a go.

I strongly suggest that if you are to post them all at one time, that you use html links or thumbnails as opposed to linking the images straight into the thread to cut down on load times drastically. Thanks.

Neko, I'll compromise with you. This does take a long time to load, but for people with fast internet, it will take forever to click on all of the pages. Therefore, I'll start another thread, and on that one I'll do html links, while this thread will continue to have the actual pictures.
This one is fairly large. I'm afraid that the use of the death realm is becoming cliched, but I redid it in .png (Although I'm a little unhappy with the new faces in it). These scenes are needed, though, because they provide the transition. The name issue has been cleared up. The next strip is going to be shorter, so there shouldn't be much of a wait. Glad to see so many positive comments! Well, here it is: Arc 3.

Hey Toox, well done on the comic, it's looking great. However I'm afraid this images thing isn't going to work at all. May I make another suggestion? Why not go to pages.google.com and set up a small webpage with your comics on, and then just link the webpage here. That way you can get all the images on one page without affecting the forum.

Good news! I finished adding the story so far to the website! And I also editted out the images on this forum, replacing them with links! And to add on to the moment, a new arc! Well, some of an arc. Here is my commentary, which is also on the page. :
In spite of the graphical changes that have been going on recently, I seem to have taken a step back on this one. Drawing people sideways and from behind is no problem. However, drawing someone facing the 'fourth wall,' I can't seem to make it look good. With the exception of Fideod, who is redrawn for every appearance, so I've gotten good at drawing him. And on one strip, you'll see it, the characters got distorted for an unknown reason. Oops! Well, besides all that, this is just the first part. The second part will come later, although I am going back to school the day after this was posted, so it could take a little while.
On a further note, the arcs are organized into 6's. Just a random number. The 5's will usually be more 'epic,' or at least larger in scale or importance. The 6th one will be a character background or commentary on the events so far from the perspectives of the characters. The preview for the 6th strip (a backstory) can be expected after the second part of the Siege of Hydlaa is posted. But anyways, enjoy!:

I've been busy virtually the entire week, and have somehow managed to fit in the time to do about 50 more strips. This thing is massive. And I'm only half-way there. I would've broken it down into more parts, but once it gets published, you'll see it wouldn't have worked. My apologies, but it's going to take more time. The main thing holding this one back is the fact that I can't be lazy. On other ones I can copy and paste and undo word bubbles. In this strip, there are different settings and people, so I'm constantly redrawing from stratch. I'm hoping to get this beast done by wednesday, but my schedule for the next few weeks will be insane. Thanks for the patience!

Eldemar now uses punctuation, grammer, and capital letters in the correct places. A big step from his first few lines. :P
Although, I guess that's more evolving than development. In terms of becoming a 'rounded' character, proposing to the bride of a wedding did show some of his character.
But I digress. You're here for arc 6. The usual introduction:
I've been busy every day this week, so it's taken much, much longer than it should've. This arc shows Vobika's entire life, from kra's creation to the start of the first arc. The point of these backstories are to give a basic idea of the character's motivations and feelings. This one will tell you what you need to know about Vobika, who, up until now, didn't seem that complicated.

I'm just wondering why you left out the times you gave him stuff to hold. I suppose you never got around to actually giving him anything to hold. Perhaps that is where the complexities of his character lay, Hopefully there is more to be revealed!

This one took a while. It's pretty standard, 70 strips although the length comes mostly through dialouge. I wrote a lot of the dialouge late at night (early in the morning?), and as a result, proofreading it today, I found so many errors that, well, the whole arc didn't make sense. So I rewrote the diaglouge, and ended up with this. Enjoy, although it may be difficult, as Vobika won't play a large part, and I know how kra is your favorite character.

Oh, and a bit of curiosity on my part. I want to know what you think. What are your favorite moments, your favorite characters, as of this point in the story? Minor events and characters are fine. You can really love that dwarf in the background of the wedding, or even orange dot #7 when Gweedol world-shouts.

The other day, at harnquist, I saw an eldemar, doing what appeared to be the stinky ulberbutt dance on someone.
a steel stock, 1000 trias,
a pair of perfect sabres, 40,000 trias
being within earshot as Eldemar does the stinky ulberbut dance.... Priceless.

Sadly, the most interesting character, Eldemar, has yet to see his potential. Why not mine some of his gems, like the pooh covered hands or the shovel that digs gold? How about his propensity toward doxies and drink?

I can only say I wish I had half your creativity. I love the concept, the drawings are perfect. BTW, you have a great conception of scale, simple 3D expression (maybe the simplest I've seen in ages) and control of impersonation through it all (i love the gm's perspective). And that's what makes it so good.
Maybe you should sell the webcomics IG.. you may get enough tria to show us what these trolls can mess up by getting some real power.
I wouldn't care if it's OOC.
I love Eldemar's rp spells.. rp can kill ya for good!

8, maybe 12 more strips. Making them takes a surprising amount longer than anticipated. When I had some time between activities, I used to sit and do nothing, and now I'll sit and bang out a strip or two in the 10 minutes I have. Right now my schedule is insane, so there isn't much time to spend on myself, a lament I'll bet most of you are saying right now. I'll have more free time starting in mid-November, and then I won't know what to do with myself. :o
Thanks Waoknie, but there won't be anything in game, although a Toox might wander the plaza when I have a lot of time to work on the comic. The art, if anyone is wondering, is a collaboration of 4 or so comics that I read that use stickish figures, and the buildings, although some look silly, are from the remnants of a chapter in a geometry class I took 3 years ago. I'm working on making 3d drawings better, too.
The next one will have around 65 strips, I think, and will be organized similarly to the Hydlaa one. If I haven't done so by then, Sunday for sure. I've been looking forward to doing number 9, the one after this, and am going to try a few new things in it, but this current one will be pretty standard.
-edit- Whoo! I finished! 78 strips... I'll put 'em up tommorrow, because it'll take some time to spread them out in a coherent way, and I'm going to bed. It might not even work if I mix the story lines up, so I'll see.

I tried to keep it coherent even with all of the changes, although some stories were very spread out. I recomend reading the whole thing top to bottom, then focusing on some of the storylines individually. It just didn't look good with 4 individual stories, and didn't quite match the chaos that most of you know as Kada-El's, so I spread it apart.

This is probably going to be a long disclaimer. I’m sorry. I’m surprised that I got one out in the end of September before my absence. I’m extremely busy in the fall, as I mentioned. So much so that if I need to go to the restroom, I need to reschedule some appointments. No, I’m just kidding, although that did happen once in November. I’m sure no one here wants specifics, since all of you are equally, if not more, busy than I.
But you don’t want to hear that. You want to know about the comic. Here is its foreword:
“This section is very useful to me because it is refamiliarizing me with the story, the style, and the art. I have been working on things besides the current strip, so you can expect some new art and style in the next arc.
This current arc, in case I have been unclear: Eldemar has been asked, by a tavern wench, to tell some of his adventures, so that she can rp being a wench better. But, it turns out that Eldemar has been busy during the adventures the guild has been having, and has his own personal interpretation of how these events have occurred. This is a foray into Eldemar's... vivid imagination. He is quite delusional, and believes that he is the center of these adventures, rather than Toox. This is his tale. These alternate tales will occur sporadically, as a different perspective on the guild's activities. You can also expect tales by some of the minor characters, other guilds, and other sources. Also, if the real Eldemar is out there, this one's for you, buddy! Good luck with your new guild! And stop getting banned! Sheesh!
Attention!!! Reread some of the older arcs! This tale is based on them, from what the dwarf has seen! Half of arcs 1, 4, and 5 are gone because Eldemar wasn't there, and since Eldemar is trying to woo the tavern girl with his bravery, some of his failures won't be mentioned.“

I wrote that before I started. I was expecting this to be 40, maybe 50 strips. It evolved into the 150’s, 170’s if you count the repeated strips. I have been reworking the art, especially of characters and races, although Ballser is the only updated character in ‘Eldemar’s Tale.’ There will be new ways for me to combat the strangely stiff movement of the previous strips. Yes, this one is all about Eldemar. It helps to know him in-game. I took some of the things he said from my log and his description to make this arc. If you don't know him, you'll live, however.
So, yeah, that's all I have to say. You should remind yourselves of the older gags for their revival. I have abused them, but am now in full rememberance of the story, and have planned all the way to arc 27. Heh, there's some ways to go.
Hopefully Eliseth will show up soon. We need some talent here. :P
My personal opinion: I stuffed too many gags into too few strips. Heh, like 154 is too few. But it feels crowded and busy when i reread it. But that's me. I'm biased. And lazy.
