Title: anyone have a azerty keyboard?
Post by: Caarrie on July 24, 2008, 09:12:26 pm
In reading the players guide i came across this:

Quote from: Players Guide
Q:
I can't type the @ for my username in the game!

A:
For those using AZERTY keyboards who are unable to type the @ character, try Alt + Ctrl + 2. If it fails, go to the PlaneShift directory and open 'planeshift.cfg'. Edit the line that looks like "Planeshift.Connection.User = m_y@email.blah" to include your email address.

Can anyone confirm for me if this is still an issue or not? If not an issue i would like to remove this with confidence from the guide.

This is no longer an issue. Azerty keyboard owners can type @ without problems now.

Keyboard layouts are called after the first 6 letters in the top row. US layout is referred as QWERTY, german layout as QWERTZ and french or belgium layouts as AZERTY.

Keyboard layouts were designed to avoid the hammers of mechanical typewriters getting stuck. And to have all letters of the word typewriter in the top line as marketing gag  :o . But that makes them suboptimal for computer keyboards. Therefore people have made other layouts like DVORAK. But those never found widely usage.

Here is a geeky web comic introducing in the topic of keyboard layouts
