Any time I try to run the client installer I get a segmentation fault. I would try to verify the md5 checksum but one for the 4.01 client wasn't listed on the site.
I decided to run valgrind -v which gave me the following output:
A few things caught my eye, but I figured I would post the output; If, that is, the output is even relevant.

I am using Fedora 9 and I am having the same problem as SomeCrazyUsername. I have followed the above link that Caarrie posted several times, but still received the same problem. I have downloaded PlaneShift from the both Stacken and Xorden and both returned the same error. Here are the instructions that I have been following to install PlaneShift:
Downloaded PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
opened terminal window
su root (so I can run chmod on file)
cd file's location
chmod a+x PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
./PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
After a second or so, receive Segmentation fault error!
I have also tried running chmod 755 PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin, but still received the same error. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let us know as I have tried several times to install PlaneShift over the last few months and can't get past this error.
Thanks and Take care,
Darin

 Forgot to add that I have also ran:
md5sum PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
it returned:
63e902a60255a666076799938cddcad4 PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
which matches the value at http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=19389.0

CrazyUsername, I figured out how to install the the game by reviewing (though it was not very clear) the topic: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33336.0
The working steps are:
Download PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
open a terminal window
type su root then when prompted it's password (so chmod can be ran on the file)
type cd /file's location
type chmod a+x PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin
Finally type ./PlaneShift-v0.4.01-x86.bin --mode text
Also it's mandatory to be in root or to have be a super user the appropriate folders will be written. Hope that helps.
Take care,
Darin
