Hi
I have searched and I dont find anybody having this problem.
I get into the sewers, target a rat and start fighting him. I takes me about a minute and the rat is dead. Now I loot it and move on to the second rat. Do the same thing there. The rat gets down to about 30% health and then I stop hitting it. It still hits me and I take damage, but I dont hit it anymore.
I have tried to retarget it and start attacking it again, no go. I have tried to move away even switch zones, it follows me and I still cant hit it. I also cant hit any other rats in the area.
In the end I have to leave the sewer completely, wait for about 2 mins and then go back in again (if I go in to soon, the rat will wait for me at the entrance and attack me the moment I go in, I still cant attack it.)
Any help? Is this perhaps lag related? (I can have ping times of up to 400 ms due to 'living in africa')

yup, can't fight rats, clackers etc etc, everything is impervious

The impervious thing is different. It just means that the npcclient (the program running all the npcs) is not running. It probably was restarting after a server crash. Or there is a bug (in which case it can be down for quite a while, until a dev with access and time has a look).

any word on when things will not be impervious? I'd like to fight some easy battles and at least complete the warehouse rats quest!

It's hard to say when. Instead of waiting for the NPC client to come up, make something else: explore around, roleplay... The point of the game is to have fun, not to get frustrated 8)

it's been a couple of days now and while theres plenty of things to do without fighting, I can't complete half a dozen quests without fighting something!!!

It's the same for all of us. Please be patient. Thinking about the quests you have to complete won't bring the NPC client back up. It will only put you in a bad mood.

Actually, it is not the same for all. I do not play often, but yesterday played a bit with an alt I have for a long time, but that never raised a skill or stat. He had enough trias to by half a mining skill, which was 0. Most fighting skills 0. Now how to proceed? Well, besides tria, you need progression points. Of course you can go do quests to get them (harny's apple quest gives .4 progression points, you can do that ones). ANd probably you get more points for other quests. BUt these take time, and are not always easy if your character is weak and you have to stop often. So I went killing rats. And they were impervious. All day.
I have answered the 'when will they be back' question several times, but I can tell you that that answer is not very satisfactory if you are a beginning character :)

Roleplay. No matter how new or old your character is you can do this and it will be the same level of fun.

And it passes the time. Time goes quickly when you RP, too fast, in my opinion :(

Some random advice, since it was kinda asked. ;D
Uan posted a while back about another problem, It was fixed, I think, before the NPC server went down again.
Roleplay IS fun, and a big part of the game, but some play for months before they feel good at it. If you want to RP, but are unsure, find some people who are roleplaying and listen a bit, if they are not in tells, they should mot mind... though they might RP it, eh? There are flavors of RP in the community. figure out who your character is and who he would approach, and then do so. Might want to be someone clear about tells vs shouts vs talk vs group (players guide and wiki)
But you can always get tria by picking up herbs, or do enough quests to get mining. if you do metalworking too, you can work metal to earn PPs, though not tria (unless mining too), but then there is herbs again...
and for those "warriors who will rule the world with their fighting prowess"; ask someone to show you how to duel (outside the city please) and then practice with them a bit, and then practice with someone else who will be another "warriors who will rule the world with their fighting prowess". no PPs, but you are learning, and nothing is more IC than doing what your character would be doing, which is training and learning how to fight! (fun to watch too)
B->
