Title: Psclient.exe and Pssetup.exe will not operate.
Post by: Shaltor on August 11, 2008, 05:21:53 pm
Hello...

I have done every fix for all the problems in the forums....

I have ran the updater after modifying the xml to true

I have ran the integrity check and it fixed files....

while I could not load the pssetup i went into the psclient.cfg and tried shutting off the sound render plugin....changed resolutions...pixel depths...vertex...sound plugins....tried changing about everything...nothing will make my game load...

I then ran the integrity check again and it replaced my psclient.cfg of course back to normal.

Whenever I try to load the psclient.exe I get an Exception_Access_Violation that has a changing nomenclature each time it pops up.....

I ran the psclient with the -console attached to it and what i see is it has a line that says

DEBUG: sound system intializing or something to that effect and then the error pops up...

if i turn the sound render into a quote it doesnt give that line but it does still pop up the error

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium edition

Im using a Laptop

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual-Core Processor TK-55 1.80 GHz
Ram: 2430 MB
System type: 32 bit OS
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X1200

install ps outside the program files folder, then do the edit and run the updater.

Hi Shaltor,

Here's what I had to go through to get the program up and running:

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33220.msg383525#msg383525 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33220.msg383525#msg383525)

That got me as far as the tutorial. When I tried to go to the game, I had a different error:

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33306.msg383545#msg383545 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33306.msg383545#msg383545)

That got me into the game itself. When I ran the Updater a day or so later, though, I had this:

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33319.msg383687#msg383687 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33319.msg383687#msg383687)

Now, everything seems to be working just fine. Hopefully the above posts will help you out in retracing your steps and fixing the problems.

-B.

thanks for the suggestions but none of those problems resemble what is going on with my program.

After installing it to a directory outside of program files the updater did do a better job updating but the program itself will not run...nor will the pssetup.

side note the directory psclient.exe and pssetup.exe is looking at for config files is empty....no size and my folder settings are set to show hidden files...it is looking at

C:\Users\MyUsername\AppData\Roaming\PlaneShift

there is nothing in that folder tho if that means anything

open up psclient.cfg with a text editor
find the section that starts with
Code: [Select]
; ******************
; * Part 3: Game   *
; ******************

after that add
Code: [Select]
PlaneShift.UserConfigPath =some/path/you/know/will/work/here

make sure you put in a path you know that works. It can be ANY folder on your harddrive.
