I was thinking about it and it doesn't make much sense to me since you can come back from the dead on your own whether you know magic or not. Your body is intact upon arrival and doesn't have to be destroyed or harmed in anyway upon return to the living realm. And crystal way can be used to bring a person back from the dead but I don't think it is viewed in a bad light when crystal way is used. Is there some part of it that I missed? ???

Yes, you'll get one or two glyphs dealing with necromancy by getting someone a mug of beer, and those glyphs will be used by people who duel in the Plaza to raise the bodies of the people they killed and then use those necromanced bodies in a duel against the next person in their list.
-
Perhaps necromancy lets someone reanimate the dead body before it`s teleported to the Death Realm...and use it as a mindless servant (while the person`s soul is in the DR? Or it`s destroyed?).
-
Likely the deceased person will only enter the Death Realm after his necromantic body has been slain, or after the necromancer has been slain.
-
But necromancy is a high crime... Maybe the soul does go to the DR after the requirements ThomPhoenix mentioned, which puts it on par with slavery. I don't remember if slavery was a high crime, though. Just that it was a big one. Probably, once someone is necromanced, their soul is destroyed, or perma-death occurs once the necromanced body is destroyed. But I can't be too sure.
-
The details about necromancy are still under development and will be revealed in due time. If anything, I'd think it has to do with reanimating the dead bodies of those who have been permakilled by old age or poison or anything like that. Be careful how you RP this since you can be dead wrong (no pun intended... >_>).
-
I understand that the details are still being worked out, but I'm curious as to why most people seemed focused on necromancy as a means to reanimate dead bodies. Traditionally, necromancy is the summoning of the spirit of a deceased individual to do one's bidding. In that line of thinking, I would consider it more realistic to suppose that the attributes and/or skills of a deceased person could be made use of by a necromancer either for the duration of the spell or until that person returned from the Realm of the Dead. But, that's just my opinion on the subject. ;)

Grendols are the product of necromancy. It is the reanimation of a True Death corpse, stolen before it could be disposed of. They are lifeless puppets. 'Bringing someone back to life' is -not- necromancy, as you are restoring someone back to their original state by reattaching their own lifeforce to them. Necromancy can not be used on someone who is heading for the Death Realm.
-
Perhaps if reanimating dead corpses is a high priority for people, a distinction should be made between summoning the spirits of the dead and actual reanimation of dead bodies. They should require two totally different kinds of magic, as the latter (reanimation of corpses) would be accomplished through the power of the mage or sorcerer with the overall strength of the reanimated body not surpassing that which the mage is able to give it, while the former (summoning) is accomplished through psycho-spiritual control over the spirit of the deceased with the conjured spirit retaining most or even all of its spiritual abilities (skills/stats), putting them in service of the summoner.
Maybe I'm talking out of turn here. I'll admit I'm out of my depths as far as PS magic is concerned. X-/

Hmm, I've used necromancy before in rps (hopefully not incorrectly) and always treated it almost how it is fabled to work in real life. You need a dead body and you basically animate the body. The person who is animated can only do as the master commands, no talking, free will or free thought. I always did it to people who were permanantly dead since if you head to death realm your body disappears. It wouldn't be bringing someone to life like is described in the crystal way description but simply commanding someone's body through your will.
Perhaps if reanimating dead corpses is a high priority for people, a distinction should be made between summoning the spirits of the dead and actual reanimation of dead bodies.
I don't think players can summon spirits.. I could be wrong but according to some of the books in DR all souls go and belong to Dakkru (which could be a lie :P ). If its true then I'm not sure if there would be a way to summon the spirits that go to her or not.

*Gaian mumbles
Meh, after a long time full of thinking I found out that I don't know. :-\
Maybe you can take souls while the body who contains them is alive. I don't know if you understand, but then this will not actually be necromancy.
About the first post, the one by Illysia:
Saying ALL the truth I don't know about that, and this makes me upset >:(
It is a problem with RP. Most of the RPers think that when you die you die forever in RP, and they should get a look at the DR Library.
One of Gaian's enemies told me by OOC that his character is not gonna die. But if you die, in RP as in the game (if you get killed by an NPC) you should be back, after a while and with some power more. But then the game will not be realistic:
When guards execute people, then they should be back, but they cannot 'cause your character will be deleted. And then in Yliakum there will be TOO people, I mean... there will not be more space. and all the character than made a funeral? ::|
Well, I am confused too.
The crystal way thing is suspicious. Well, if you resurrect by it maybe Dakkru curse will not catch you...
You're right, it doesn't make such sense, at all. >:(
-
Perhaps the Crystal way spell will be implemented as a sort of "get out of DR free" spell which plucks the target from the DR without having to find a portal. Of course such magic might anger Dakkru who might take a portion of the casters soul as a fee if it is not properly protected.
-
Maybe necromancy will be a variety of skills that include controlling the undead (like grendol), animating corpses, summoning the dead, creating potions and other things from dead bodies, sucking the life out of someone, etc.
-
What if the necromancer dies? What would happen to the reanimated corpse?
I think I see an original character concept...

You probably would have to go through Dakkru, as in like an offering or something. A soul for soul, perhaps. Or something that's worth a soul... though I can't think what would be.

Necromancy in common parlance, means to communicate with the spirits of the dead. The prefix -mancy means to see, a seer, one who looks to the stars. Necrokenesis would be the animation of dead bodies. The term necromancy has become a catch all term relating to death magics in RPGs.
