i also saved the md5 checksum tool under windows download for this. i tried downloading the 4.00 but had problems downloading them from windows
-
old clients will not help you. please try what i suggested in that link.
-
changed the thing too already saved it and that did help it WILL update now but it has the md5sum problem still
-
md5sum is not a problem in this case ignore it and let the updater do its job.
-
Silidrea, I feel your pain ;) Unfortunatly letting the updater do it's job ::| doesn't work in this case because it thinks it has done it's job and tells you to hit enter to exit.
Try this. Copy the updaterinfo.xml and name the copy updaterinfo.xml.bak. The updater now seems to recognize the updaterinfo.xml file....at least for me anyway.\
Hope you are still around Silidrea and haven't given up. Let me know what it does.

I think you just saved me from deleting this game scuzzle. I was going to post on the forums anyway soon but i wasn't expecting much help as Caarrie has the same reply for every single problem it seems (Which is absolutely no help whatsoever)
i just don't know whether this updater will fix my problem of the openal32 not being a windows image error that I get when i try to start the client. just waiting for the update to complete as for the first time, its actually updating something other than itself.
-
i did get the download to work!!!!!!! :D thank you very much now i just gotta wait for the server lol
-
Hey Hazari, Caarrie has been working this problem for days, and has helped endlessly and patiently.
Eurac raises his glass to Caarrie, all hail the testers.
-
mine reached about 25% dled and then stopped for the same reason as before...
I don't doubt Caarrie has been doing a good job, its just that for every problem related to the updater, they describe their problem then are given the same link regardless of the exact problem and whether or not the link helps, which for most people it sounds like it doesn't.
I'd be perfectly happy and have nothing to say if it worked, but i came to play this game in 2004 and gave up then cos i couldn't get it to work for whatever reason, and its irritating that i come back 4 years later to find a new problem preventing me playing. (though this time i am really trying to be patient.)
Edit: So I'm guessing teh updater is working because caarrie says that the md5sum is not an issue, when the updater has finished running, it creates an empty zipped file called win32-0.4.01.zip
the updater says
PlaneShift Updater Version 1.00 for win32.
Checking for updates:
Checking for updates to the updater: No updates needed!
Checking for updates to all files: Updates Available!
Downloading update file..
md5sum of client zip does not match correct md5sum!!
Couldn't read file /this/updaterinfo.xml.bak!
Failed to remove file /this/updaterinfo.xml.bak
Update finished!
Updater finished, press enter to exit.
but when i try run the client it comes up with this error
psclient.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL D:\Program Files\Planeshift Steel Blue\OpenAL32.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
If this problem has been mentioned elsewhere, I'm sorry I couldn't find it, I've spent the past 2 hours looking for a solution.
-
your issue HAS been answered SEVERAL times already and yet you dont even take advice to search. i will no longer give you advice on how to fix your issues if you dont think what i do is worth it.
[edit]
i do read all posts before i reply to them unless i state otherwise in my reply. please search if you dont like what i do then i will stop and no one will get proper tech support for this game. think about it i am helping you, you just dont want to take the info and run with it. many people have had their issues solved via the help and links i have given them.
-
I have searched. I've spent about 3 hours searching. I've only found errors where the openal32 file is missing, which isn't the case for me. I'll continue looking anyway.
I've done everything I've read for teh updater so I'm presuming that it is fixed.
Edit: Ideally I shouldn't have even mentioned my problems unless in a new thread, and I only just realised that anyway. But I don't normally post on a forum because I don't register on a forum unless I can't find the answer I'm looking for. I've been working on this issue for several hours before I even signed up, including following your links and reading every solution I can find. Its getting terribly repettive as I have followed all instructions offered to other people that I have found, and none have fixed it. So yeh, just ignore any comments I made, I'm just gunna continue my search later see if I can find anything that helps me.

old clients will not help you. please try what i suggested in that link.
That link includes advice to do exactly that, download 0.04.0, so that reference is somewhat circular.
In addition I also spent 30 minutes plus searching the forums for Hazaris exact problem without success, I would suggest if the updater is indeed working you try deleting the openal32.dll then running the updater or replacing the .dll with a new one following the instructions here (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32974.msg380017#msg380017)
-
that post is wrong the client to download is .4.01 not .4.00 as that is not a client that has the best updater [on some systems] check the download page at planeshift.it and it is .4.01 not .4.00
-
I feel really thick now... I should have tried deleting the openAL32.dll file, it appears to have fixed everything.
The md5sum error is gone and after the update is finished the client loads. Well now I'm happy so thanks Mord, and thanks anyway Caarrie, without you the updater part wouldn't have worked.
