Title: Is it okay to start a "trade thread" on the official forums?
Post by: rakshak on August 30, 2008, 05:39:52 pm
(This is a low priority question lingering in my head for a long time. But this very long server outage is propelling me to ask it anyway. I searched the forums but didn't find if this idea has been discussed before, so posting a new thread)

Question: Is it okay to start a "trade thread" on the official forums?

Explanation: Though roleplaying remains the focus of Planeshift, trading is important as well. So far I've been doing trades in-game by setting up shops, participating in auctions, and impromptu meetings with prospective buyers. Some of those evolved into lasting relationships in Yliakum too. But when the server is down, all these opportunities are lost. I was thinking if it's okay to post a trade list, so prospective buyers can contact the sellers in-game and carry out the trade. My idea is that when preparing for weekend shops, I would like the buyers to have an idea of what is being sold or bought, ahead of time, so they can plan it well. This planning presumably will also involve their guild and buddies (and rivals too), and is expected to further promote roleplay and in-game interaction.

To further promote roleplay, such trade threads could be made exclusively IC too.

Do you think this idea is good or bad?

I think this is a great way to get people to rp/talk with each other more while making it easier to buy and sell unwanted items which other people want.

I think so too... however my only concern is roleplayers may be overrun by power-levelers. I don't know if that is a true possibility or I'm being too cautious though. Today I logged into Runescape after a long time, and realized a huge difference - people in Runescape just won't even say "hi", let apart any roleplaying possibilities. By making trade much easier, and that too outside of the game, is there a thin chance of such players being rampant in PS too?

not exactly what you are talking about, I don't think.. but: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33350.msg384036#msg384036 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33350.msg384036#msg384036)

plus check out the hydlaa message board.  no reason that I can see that you can not post there with sales and items for sale.  We have a similar message board near me. Babysitters, cars for sale, garage sales, all posted on it.  Same thing could be done there?

It would be a nice change from all the "wanted posters".

Just my 2 tria.
