Just a small personal issue:
When posting threads asking for help, and the GM's ( i believe that's what they are called ) read the post and it goes about a week with no response. I am left wondering if my thread was even looked at. A simple "Not quite sure how to help you right now" would be more effective then feeling ignored :\
-
that takes up useless space and hurts people in the long run when they try to use the forum to search for answers to their issues.
if someone doesn't know how to fix an issue, then they shouldn't post anything.
-
Also note that the most effective way to contact a GM is either in-game or on the #planeshift-gmtalk channel on IRC. Forum posts normally take longer to be noticed.
-
Well i can't get in-game because of my problems lol. how can i fix my problems without posting for help? How do I get to the "#planeshift-gmtalk" channel on IRC? I'm not sure what the IRC is..?
Sorry, found the IRC in a post below mine...but where do I go now that there's noone in there?
-
GMs are for problems in game. From your posts I see that you have problems getting in in the first place. Unfortunately there are not many devs using a mac, and they usually not spend their time in the forums either. Caarrie tried to help, but even she did not know what your problem is. I would suggest to try to give more information in that thread and hope that someone finds what the problem is.
-
I don't know what other information to give. I said what i did, what happened, and whatever information on my computer that was asked for...Not sure what else needs to be known to solve my problem :\
My complaint was just that devs are leaving threads hanging so i wasn't sure if noone read it or not, until i blatantly asked. Just frustrating. Hard to find/report bugs when i can't even play :p
-
Devs do not read all threads. Just to give you an idea, there where two pages of threads with new messages in the last 8 hours or so. Others will read them, for example Caarrie who is on the test team (as I am). But she does not have time to reply to all threads immediately all the time. Getting impatient and telling people who are spending their free time making this game better that they are not spending their time correctly does not help.
-
My apologies, i didn't try to come off as rude, was simply saying i wasn't sure if my thread was read or not because it had been a while. Sorry for any feelings i hurt
-
Player/Dev (and the other way round) communication appears to be a problem of ps also to me.
In this case I think irc would have been a good way to try to solve the problem. Im not sure how right now, but it might be a good idea to point irc out as at least alternative way to solve a problem to the forum from the beginning on.

Yes, I agree Sen. I had no idea what IRC was or how to access it. granted, i saw it mentioned in previous posts but with no real explanation. I've also been checking in the IRC allllll day long and noone's ever in there...how can i get help if there's never anyone there? :\
-
There are around 90 people in PlaneShift's main room at the moment :) Please check this guide (http://www.planeshift.it/irc.html) on how to get started with IRC.
-
I'm on a mac and neither of those are compatible..now what? are their any other programs i can download? I've been going to http://webchat.xs4all.nl/ and going in to #planeshift and #planeshift-gmtalk but i'm the only one in there...?
-
Then you've most probably connected to the wrong network :)
The network PlaneShift's channels are in is called "Freenode" (irc.freenode.net:6667). It shouldn't be a problem to "translate" the info in the guides to any other IRC-Client. kvirc (http://www.kvirc.net/?id=releases&lang=en) is available for MacOS too, for example.
Good luck!
-
*sigh* i swear i don't mean to be a hassle. but now i downloaded that kvirc and first of all didn't really know what to download. so i did something and got a zip file. unarchived it and got a folder with tons of stuff in. Not sure what is the actual program i need to run...
-
No worries :)
This (http://www.kvirc.net/?id=releases&platform=macosx&version=3.4.0&lang=en) is the package you need. You should be able to install it like every other program.
Edit: Make sure to pick the right one. PPC vs. Intel ;)

Great thank you very much!! Now i found the FreeNode but it then gives me a drop down list of different servers in different locations? Does it matter which one I choose?

Finally got my problem fixed, thanks to Peeq in the forums sand Aiken in IRC :D Yay!
