Once the small blue bar at the top of a skill is all the way to the right.
you have enough progression points to visit the right Trainer.
Buy the skill.
then the bar will change to a bit of green and red.
Practise the skill till the bar is full green and you level up that skill.
Stats -:- , strength agility endurance intelligence ect
When you have blue bars all the way and you visit the right trainer.
the upgrade is instant.

K i think i have that edit saying it right :)

Using a skill makes the green bar progress. When the maximum is reached (no red colour left visible on the right), you need to train that skill with a teacher. A skill you can train is in yellow colour (instead of green).
To train, you'll need the right teacher, and spend Progression Points (PP, seen in your stats window), and Trias. The higher the skill, the more PP and money you'll need to be able to learn. When you have PP, you see a blue bar on the skills yellow bars; if the blue is shorter than the yellow, that means you don't have enough PP to train that skill yet.

Just as an addition....There is a more in depth explanation on this in the PSWiki. http://pswiki.xordan.com/index.php/Players_Guide/Skills (http://pswiki.xordan.com/index.php/Players_Guide/Skills)

I'm sorry but I still don't find it clear.
Imagine I have not trained with an NPC before, but I practice a lot something. Does it help to progress or is all this practice lost ?
That is to say do you need to train with an NPC beforehand or can you do it after you've exercive a skill?
