WINDOWS
1. install  Planeshift like any other program
1.a if on Vista do _not_ install in program files folder
2. in windows explorer find the folder you just installed ps in
3. right click on updaterinfo.xml
4. go to open with
5. open with "wordpad"
6. find the line that reads
Code: [Select]
<config active="false">to
Code: [Select]
<config active="true"> then save the file
7. run the updater, it may take a few times to update the full client, the updater at this time has no gui.
8. run psclient and verify you can log into the game, if this fails try step 7 again

if you have issues with starting the game after running the updater from the cmd line [start run cmd]
Code: [Select]
"C:\your\path\to\where\ps\is\installed\psupdater.exe" CheckIntegrity

please try the above again and dont mix it up with directions for the other os's ;)

thankyou very much for tolerating my noobish ways.I get mixed up with the different operating systems. I did downloaded the updater patch. Everything was going good until i opened the new updater and it said:

"This program requires admin/root or write privileges to run. Please restart the program with these.
In windows this means right clicking the updater shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator"
For everyone else , login as the root user. If you don't have root access contact someone who does
and ask them nicely to run the updater!"

The weird thing is that I am the administrator! So the option to click on "Run as administrator" was not there for me to click on.So
So now I'm stuck again.  >:(

please what should I do?

Sorry, not sure what you mean with updater patch...When I look at Caarries post, I don't see mentioned anywhere that you have to download a patch ;). If you refer to this http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32812.msg379029#msg379029 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32812.msg379029#msg379029), then sorry, no idea. Make sure that your updater executeable is in the same directory as your planeshift installation, but couldn't think of a reason why it shouldn't be there (This was just a problem of someone else that resulted in the same error message).

ok so there in the same directory........sigh now i get this  message.......

"This updaterinfo.xml file is marked as inactive and will not work. Please get another one"

I did! The patch from the main download page here!

I downloaded it! http://www.planeshift.it/download.html THIS PATCH after the installation! and its still the same!

it's the updator..... its evil......

i'm gonna get my freind to install  planeshift for me......... he has the patience and he's been wanting me to play anyways.
So if you can't help that's fine.

I'm getting a new laptop in a couple days. I have planned to get linux on it because windows is pure evil. I am so tired of windows every game I play on it is nothing but a struggle. and pc games are getting worse and not so great.

If you have a friend who can do it for you, good. But it wouldn't be that hard to solve by yourself. Just follow Carries instructions ;).

Quote
2. in windows explorer find the folder you just installed ps in
3. right click on updaterinfo.xml
4. go to open with
5. open with "wordpad"
6. find the line that reads
Code:
<config active="false">
to
Code:
<config active="true">
 then save the file

These are the steps needed to activate the updater in updaterinfo.xml.

AH HA! I typed "true"  with a capitol T. I shouldn't have done that. I typed it all in lower case and it works like a charm.
Calac helped me (a dwarf some of you might know) He's my freind in irl.
Alright I'm off.

Thank you all I am playing ps right now!
