Title: Guide for making PlaneShift running as fast as possible?
Post by: zanzibar on November 01, 2008, 03:22:22 am
Is there a guide or thread somewhere about how to make PlaneShift take up the least possible amount of operational memory?

Not that I know of, although I have come across a few threads that talk about tweaking graphics settings from time to time.

Would one be possible / generally considered useful?  I'm not in a position to write one, I'm sure many users would benefit from it.

You mean like compiling psclient using -march= so you can get your 0.05% or whatever increase in CPU speed?

EDIT:  This might be good for acraig's documentation wiki (http://doc.hydlaa.com) because I think this is more of an engine thing than a game thing.

I was thinking of something useful for players, less so a development thing.  Like, if I can get PlaneShift to run without loading textures, or what the most efficient settings in pssetup are.

In setup set the texture downsampling to 1/16, use the lowest resolution, turn off sound (might help), turn off multisampling, run the default skin.
In game go to video options turn off shadows, set the visual distance to 80-100.
