This has been eating at me for awhile now. When you are attacked by an NPC, you just stand there, and if it is stronger than you, you stand there till you die. Now really, who lets something kill them?
Can we have it to where the character automatically attacks, goes to full defensive or runs away?
I was pretty sure I was safe where I was standing so I went off to listen to my mother which always shuts everything down. I come back to see my character die. I really didn't have any protection against that.
-
The attacked character already automatically goes to full defensive when attacked.
Of course, sometimes you die in one blow, but that's fair.
-
I don't see any evidence of where she did go into full defensive and she didn't die in one blow.
-
What happens to me is like this:
- if the attack is really too weak, my mode doesn't change and I get the system message "x attacks yo but you dodge"
- if the attack makes contact, the focus goes onto the creature, my mode changes to full defense, the combat music starts, and the endurance starts to decrease. Plus the combat system messages, plus big red messages if I'm facing the wrong direction. So it's really impossible to miss it.
- if endurance reaches 0, the character leaves combat mode, and the process restarts as above.
Well, if you don't see anything happen at all, I guess you may be the victim of a bug. You'll have to try and reproduce it. Maybe you were doing something, at the time, that interfered with the process.

Illysia, it used to work that way. Your char would go into attack mode and kill the creature automatically, but that was widely exploited. So it's a feature, not a bug.

You weren't by chance sitting? If I remember it correctly chars don't go into defensive mode if you sit when being attacked. I remember getting banged on by a Rogue when I was sitting somewhere I considered safe. Looked funny, my char stood up each time to recieve the blow from the Rogue, then sat down again and waited for the next blow.
I'm not sure if this is still happening, it taught me to choose the spots I rest at very well so no NPC had a chance to attack me while I was sitting lately.
If it still works that way it would be great if sitting chars would at least stand up when attacked and go into defensive mode instead of just getting hit until they die (if the attacks are that strong). Doesn't seem very realistic to me that you just keep sitting around looking bored when someone attacks you. I would at least try to defend myself, even if that attempt might fail cause the attacker is too strong.

I was standing and my character didn't do anything, it took several fairly weak hits to kill her and she just stood there.

Did you witness that, or did you deduce it from your system messages?
I'm asking that because full defense mode doesn't necessarily mean that one doesn't get hit. It depends on your skills/stats and the attacker's.
-
I checked the system message and it tells you if you hit back even if it fails to do damage. She just stood there.
-
Isn't that what full defensive is?

I have a simple remedy for this.
In Yliakum, much like when you are in the wilds of many lands, choose where you roll out your bedroll and take a nap. In a land called africa I hear it was dangerous to sleep next to your recent kill, as something called hyenas or somethingelse called lions would kill you. In yliakum the same goes true. If you take a nap [go afk] in the wild or other dangerous places, you may be killed as well.
[so you can either log out, I mean, come on, you log back in where you were,so not like you need to travel for hours to get back there) or go to a safe spot, like Hydlaa, Ojaveda, or even the bronze door fortress. ]
I understand you wont like this answer, but as per: Illysia, it used to work that way. Your char would go into attack mode and kill the creature automatically, but that was widely exploited. So it's a feature, not a bug.
I am no "Elite RP-er" but I think this is ok to lend a little believeablity as well as prevent expoits. I sometimes wonder why ppl hate to log off. maybe the real question is "can the devs EASILY set up a semi-logoff state? where you disappear ingame, but can come back and hit "re-connect" to reconnect without logging out completely. otherwise, I would say "Pick your place to rest carefully".
(anyone old enough to remember the games where you had to get to a safe point before you stopped? I dunno, maybe the sheeple games still have that. maybe think of this as a save point, except you are saving a trip through the DR?)

Yar. My understanding is that when you're in fully defensive mode you only block and dodge, no attacking. So even if they were weakish hits, the creature would have killed her eventually.
I personally never leave my character out in the wild, I log off usually, unless I know I'm only going to be out for a second. Bamko is right, if you snooze you lose. Not that I don't sympathise with you Illysia, it's one of the most annoying things that can happen in an mmo, especially in PS with the curse.
-
Whenever my character gets the curse, I just leave my computer until it wears off. :innocent:
-
Yeah, well my mother got me right up that instant. I didn't have time to log out, didn't plan to be away that long, and couldn't get away sooner. If you can tell your mothers what to do and not the other way around...I salute you. :P
-
I'll talk to your mother for you. Whats her number?
-
Pics?
-
I'll have some when I'm done.
-
Pics of what, Mother?? huh? hehehe
click the X and confirm, click click.
if youw ere playing a Single person shooter game and had to just step away, bet you would die also.
about going afk with Deathcurse. Never much cared for that. you do know you can talk to pple, you can organize your inventory so you can unload more stuff next time you are in DR so you are able to walk next time, etc. I guess going afk is an option.... oh, yeah, and my favorite, I used to train melee on rats, or later rogues, as long as they can not kill you even when weakened. Not sure if helps, but seems to be productive use of time. Of course I guess watching Hogan's Heros or the Andy Grifith show would work too, eh? :P
