This is my second attempt at playing Planeshift and probably my last.
Once again when i install the game I have many difficulties getting the game to work.
After a lot of work getting the Updater to work, I tried to play the game and afteer i type in my Email address and password and click okay, the client freezes and a lot of text starts flashing.
This is the exact same problem I had last time, although last time i was able to get farther in the login process before the screen froze.
Is there any fix for this?
And if that wasn't clear:
I try to log in. I click OK. The screen freezes. A lot of text starts flashing.

after reading over your first thread: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33281.0
Your graphics card drivers are still probably the problem.
You have to go to the card manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for the card.
Don't use windows automatic updates. It's a POS. The only OS maker that has reliable automatic updates for hardware drivers is Mac, which you don't have.
-
I seriously doubt i need to update my driver.
I have a relatively new laptop and last time i tried to update my driver, there was no new update.
-
whats the version it says you're running?
-
I'm not sure on the exact number, but it is Steel Blue.
like .0.4.2 or something like that.
it is 0.4.01
I think the problem is my updater isn't working properly.
This is what is says when i ran the updater:
Downloading update file. .
m35sum of client zip does not match correct m5sum!!
couln't read file /this/updaterinfo.xml.bak!
failed to remove file /this/updaterinfo.xml.bak
update finished!
-
rather than waste time trying to fix the updater, I suggest getting the new client located here: http://www.psmirror.org/
remember to install the new client cleanly.
-
thanks :]
i'll report my results.
*edit*
okay
well
now i can log in
but when it gets to the character creator, i can't do anything.
a lot of text starts flashing
this is the same problem i had last time.
-
what is the version number of the driver you are using for your graphics card?
-
how do i find this out?
-
like so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DxDiag
:)
That article also tells you how to save the output to a text file so that you can open the file and copy paste the info to your response on these forums.

Your driver version is from Feb 2008. The latest version offered by Intel, the chipset maker, is much newer.
Choose the appropriate driver for your flavor of Vista here: Really long web link (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2583&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng&strOSs=All&submit=Go!)
Install and then try. Should fix your issues.
-
it says that's the wrong type
-
hmm....
try the ones found here then: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2800&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng&strOSs=All&submit=Go! (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2800&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng&strOSs=All&submit=Go!)
that should be the right one then.
intell's driver support page can be a bit tricky like that.
-
it keeps saying Error: the driver being installed is not validated for this computer. please contact your manufacturer and obtain the appropriate driver.
-
sound like you aren't picking the right one for the version of Vista you are running, or you are having issues Intel documented here: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm
