Hi there,
I'd like to take a break from my usual zany shenannigans and ask a serious question about the game developers stance on using the game logo. I'd really like to be able to use the Planeshift Logo to promote more members of my multi-game website, but am aware that it is not my creative property. I've placed the website on what appears to be a burgeoning social networking site for MMO players of all types and strongly to promote the game along with the other titles displayed on the guild's homepage.
Can I politely ask if there is any possibility to use the aforementioned logo? Or would the developers prefer that I use an alternative representation?
Best wishes,
Mog

I believe there is a concept of "Fair Use" of others corporate logos as long as you attribute copyright or trademarking to their owners. We've all seen the M$ logo used liberally among websites, then attributed to M$ with the relevant © ® ™ symbols and a notification that "All Trademarks and Copyrights are the property of their respective owners". If a request is made that you removed the logo then you would obviously be required to do so, but you couldn't be sued for using it in the first place, just for not removing it when asked.

Afaik you can use it as long as you clearly attribute copyright as Pizik said, it would be fair use.

In my experience most game devs are rather liberal with the use of game art on other websites. I mean most things that people do with their art equates to free promotion so who's going to argue. Attributing certainly wouldn't hurt but as long as you don't make some kind of profit you should be fine anyway.
