Title: FROZEN AT START UP.
Post by: gabi on December 02, 2008, 11:18:23 am
Hi, I have been running PS 4.03 with no major problems since the other night. I have tried getting on it today, the game completely freezes whilst loading (before entering the game). The whole computer freezes and i have to turn it off then on again. iI have only been playing PS for 3 weeks in total now, and this problem has happened a few times whilst actually playing the game. ??? have searched to find a solution with no luck. I am running the latest version of Mac os 10.5.5-software fully up to date. thanks :(

Have you applied the changes mentioned in the file "readme-osx" in the planeshift-gamefolder? If not, do so. Not applying them could be the cause for the crash. The best thing is to not apply them all at once, but one after the other and see if the game starts after applying one change.

There is a file named "readme-osx" in the planeshift-gamefolder (your local folder). Within there, there are some changes suggested to try out.

Hi,

This problem happens at least once or twice a week, and i am constantly using the suggestions in the mac os x read me file, adding or taking away the semi colon in the following;

Some graphics cards have problems with texture compression. If you
experience problems loading the game disable texture compression by
doing the following:

Open the file:

<Planeshift install diretory>/data/config/r3dopengl.cfg

in a text editor. Locate the following line and delete the leading semicolon:

;Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

should be:

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

Save the file (be sure the file is saved as text only).

(what ever that is, its completely over my head).  When the game is loading the whole computer completely freezes......i have hunted through the mac section here and cant seem to find anyone who has similar problems.....and  ive hunted everywhere i can to find an answer,but no luck,,,please help,  im baffled...thanks ???  P.S have also added the following.....

Open the file

<Home directory>/Library/Application Support/Planeshift/psclient.cfg

in a text editor, and add the following line at the end of it:

Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Fragment=false
Video.OpenGL.Shader.Cg.Enable.Vertex=false

use the old .cgf file from version 4.02 - works for me.. something to do with openGL.

try this one http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kzyabwzznt5 it should save the console output to a file "consolelog.txt" in your PlaneShift folder, even if your pc crashes it should have something in the file. there will be no output in terminal with this one, it will all go to that file.

hi, i spoke to a ps player who runs mac also, and was told to open up the ps set up window and  go to  Advanced Options....Vertex Buffer Object and switch from default to off, and then to go to Quality Speed Options.... Texture downsampling and change from 1/1 to 1/2, which i have done  and got it working again. Hopefully that will solve the problem, can u suggest anything about doing this?? Thanks

the texture down sampling fix is for those with an intel gma x3100 and the other thing is for those with windoze and an ati card with certain drivers, so i have no idea what effect that might have on your system, and also if you keep getting the crash please try to paste the contents of that file i mentioned above ;) so i might have a look at what is the issue.
