Title: A wish for future auctions.
Post by: zanzibar on December 21, 2008, 07:09:20 pm
New rule:  If a member of a guild says "lol", "brb", or something else that's disruptive to the roleplaying experience during an auction, the guild will receive one warning.  If a member of that guild offends again, the guild will be barred (dismissed, banned) from the auction.

Comments?  I'm not sure this is the best way to address the problem, but it seems like an obvious one.  I encourage people to think of creative solutions and post them, since this kind of behaviour has apparently annoyed quite a few people.

Alternative:
New rule:  If a member of a bidding guild says "lol", "brb" without using brackets, or something else that's disruptive to the roleplaying experience during an auction, the bid will automatically be raised by 10% of the current bid. If the auctioneer violates that rule, the bid will automatically be lowered by 10%.

That seems fair

I don't know.  That seems overly complicated, to be honest.  A "two strikes and you're out" system is easier to understand, and it might get better results.

And what is the penalty for spinning in circles? This proposal is just more fallout from the guild house auction thread. There is already a basic code of conduct that the GM team uses to determine behavior that needs to be remedied... adding specific punishments just because it is at an auction is unwarranted.

I haven't heard complaints about spinning in circles, but there have been complaints about OOC chat during RP events.

I don't think I know what you mean by "fallout".  Every time we have an auction, I'm sure we'll learn something from it so we can make the next one better.  Is that what you mean by "fallout"?

I have read complaints about people spinning in circles at Kada El's... :(

Fallout... more people crying out for change because they don't like how something was run. I don't see this as helpful or even constructive criticism so much as finding, yet another, avenue to gripe about the auction that happened this weekend. Come up with whatever rules you want for your little RP clubs, but the GMs and Devs will do what they deem necessary with whatever events they run no matter what you agree on in this thread for how things "should" be run.

I'll remind you that this is an RP game, and there are rules against being disruptive.  If you don't like that, maybe you should play Runescape... or whatever it is non RPers play.

I think people like the auctions.  But there are ways to make them even better. :)

And I will remind you that this is a MMOrpG... that is free to anyone who wants to try it out... and has players from all over the world that can't even agree on a solid definition of what exactly this most holy RP thing even is.  While your opinion may be well received here on the forums, only a small fraction of the players even visit the forums, and even fewer post. I am NOT disruptive in-game, but I believe that many here are too nitpicky for their own good and just need to relax.
