It would cool if certain Characters could Focus(or Zoom) thier vision as an ability.
There would be levels to this like humans can only focus a bit but, a Ranger Human could Focus even further and Elf Ranger would have Eagle eyes that could focus great distances.
It would be nice to be able to use the mouse scroll wheel to focus in and out through the different ranges.
Also please post if you like this idea! That way it might get more attention from the Developers. :]

Hmm. I don\'t know. It doesn\'t sound to me like it would really be needed. It\'s not like there are sniper rifles in the game :P I\'m sure range weapons like bows and such couldn\'t be accurate enough to pick off someone hundreds of feet away. Maybe if you gave us a practical use it may have...
-
who knows what it would be used for.
... may be you would just scan the country side watching for the lost unicorn on your quest?
Or get in a tower and look for a known rouge in the market square.
eh oh well... :)

Ahhhhh yes...this seems like a really good idea. Since I\'m going to be playing a rogue character...you know...sneaking around in the shadows trying never to allow myself to be seen....this seems like a very good idea. I enjoy entertaining the idea of crouching down in a tree scouting out the terrain ahead to determine the most isolated path to make my way towards that dragon\'s cave or sorcerer\'s tower or whatever. Also looking around and making sure that none of the angry mob is still behind me. :] Very good idea! I hope they put it in the game!
Oh yes and Lorune...This is just hoping that I\'m not that rogue you\'re looking for....heheh

i don\'t know ...if it was implemented it would have to be skill and race dependant
and while we\'re at it ...how come the enkidukkai don\'t have night-vision by default? ...cat eyes?!? 8o
-
Yeah, it\'d be good for guild defenses also. Scanning the terrain for enemy guild members. :D

Why? As I understand it, the currently proposed way of fighting other people would be in some sort of mutually agreed duel so it\'s not like you\'d have to fear getting stabbed in the back by someone.

Skill, Race and Classs should alway figure into how you see.
Cat people should have nightvision unless you choose it as a disadvantage.
Same goes for any rock or snake type person (if there ever are any), they should have some infravision ability.
Elves so have a greater focus ability than humans.
Human rangers should a better visual focus than wizard class humans.
Infravision vision should have it\'s own Focus(zoom) stat dependent on the Infravision skill level.
But nightvision may use the same stat as the normal Visaul Focus.

Well, duh, so you can throw livestock at them! Besides, they\'d probably be able to \"spy\" if they were on the other side of a building, if it was in the same \"zone\".

There will be no classes. Other than the fact that classes affect focus range, it is a good idea, unless by class type you mean statistics of your character being similar to those of a class.
As I doubt you can focus or zoom in on something with your eyes only, perhaps there could be a spell or item that allows you to do so. Things like binoculars or telescopes/spyglasses were not invented within medieval times I believe (my knowledge is extremely meagre), we can have an item similar to that of the items I mentioned before.
This idea is pretty good as you can see things from a distance in detail, as well as get information of another army or creature and prepare against it/them before they or you get too close. By \'armies\' I am somehow thinking of massive guild wars, but I doubt that there are going to be many. Still, guild defense is good as explorer said before. Anyway, scanning a countryside as a scout or just admiring terrain, as well as other features, is going to make the game more interesting. Interesting idea...
-
I\'m keeping my fingers crossed hoping they put this in the final version...sounds really cool. Oh and wormtail, they had invented the spyglass in the middle ages, but not much more.
-
Ahhhh crap...looks like this thread is dying...and that means no one will take notice and it won\'t be implimeneted into the game.... ;(
-
It makes me wonder, how often do devs actually go to this forum? Because I haven\'t seen one actually post here for a long while...
-
they don\'t care...I feel so unloved...
-
*cough*(was it just me or was the last 4 or 5 posts made by Julix just random spam to raise his post count?)*cough*
-
ouch....ummm....no...no...of course not....why would I do a thing like that....I DONT KNOW WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT!!!
and be nice...try to spell my name right next time...let\'s keep all this bashing civil...
-
Hehe, sorry... to be honest, I noticed the mispell, but I didn\'t change it because I didn\'t want that ugly \"last edited blah yatta yatta\" tagged on the end of the post. (I didn\'t check the profile yet to see if there was a way to turn it off, just incase there is)

i like the spy glass idea better then the one with zoom
that zooming stuff reminds me too much of a shout\'em\'up :P
and the spyglass looks cool and it also adds that adventurer feeling - plus you could use it only when not moving, so you don\'t poke your eye with it :)
-
Fine if your some human then you can go buy a spy glass.
As for me I\'m an Elf and I can see far without the need of such devices.
-
Has even a single dev taken a look at this thread? I think that this feature would really add a lot to the game. I like the zoom skill idea better than the spyglass, but the spyglass would be better than nothing...
-
A dev might have looked at this thread. They might not have. Just because they didn\'t reply does NOT mean they did not look at this thread. Otherwise... there are going to be a little too many replies in this thread.
Spyglasses are more realistic than focusing your vision on something in the distance. Try that and see how more realistic a spyglass would be rather than if you tried to focus your own vision. You just can\'t focus your vision on something far away and see it in close detail without \'outside\' aid.
As for Lorune, don\'t overestimate Elves so much. Sure, they can see farther than normal, but they can\'t forcus[/] and zoom on a distant object.
-
But how else are you going to depict the ability to see further in a game.
BattleField 1942 uses zoom to depict using the sites on a rifle.

spyglass?
-
A gun site not a scope...

Some type of zoom sight seems like a possible elf ability when using range weapons, for example. but that\'s just my opinion.
