Title: Kubuntu + Game Closes while playing
Post by: hoopcrazytr on January 03, 2009, 07:40:29 pm
When I log in, I can play just fine for a few minutes but then all of a sudden the game just closes. After it closes, my desktop is all magnified and I have to refresh to set it back to normal size. How can I fix this? :'(

Running Debian/Unstable, I experience pretty much the same, although without the magnification. I run the default client, and after not more than 5mins it just shuts down.

I compiled the client with all optimizations, running this one that problem was fixed.

What do you mean you compiled it with all optimizations?

The reason you're getting the crashes is because of the !leaf_replaced bug. It's caused by the binary compiling with an outdated version of GCC. Compiling your own client (a la the Build Guide (https://planeshift.svn.sf.net/svnroot/planeshift/trunk/docs/compiling.html)) with the latest version of GCC should fix the crashing issue.

sorry but no that's the only way  :( (except finding someone building in your place if that could be considered an easier way)

for those looking for more info on this bug you can find it at http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=1749, also next time please post to the linux board. The only other way to fix this would be to allow someone ssh access to your machine and let them build the client for you, but ONLY do this with someone that you can trust as some people might take advantage of your machine.
