what if there were more than one types of books, with different limits of characters, different prices, and different icons. For example, one wants to buy a medium-sized book (25 000 characters limit) , which costs 150 trias. He looks on him, but finds out he don't have enough trias. If he had 125 trias, for example, he could buy a slightly smaller book (15 000 characters). And if he really has nearly no trias on him, he could buy a small notepad (1000-2000 characters). If, for example he had one circle on him, maybe he could buy a bigger book (37 500 characters), or if he had even more money he could buy a very big book (50 000 characters), or maybe even bigger book (80 000-100 000 characters).
;)
Of course, each type of books would have a different weight (a notepad and a 1500-pages book doesn't have the same weight, don't they?), and different icons. Not only some of the books in Jayose's Librams and Codexes do not have the icon the player-bought books have, but there is a variety of book icons useable in the Art directory!
P.S.: Every numbers in this post can be changed, they were just examples. :)

Sounds good, but bear in mind the maximum amount of characters in a book is limited by the database; it is around 60,000 if I remember correctly.
-
So, if the database gets bigger, the maximum capacity of characters a book can have does the same?
in a simpler Way: It is like adding pages to a book?
-
No, the database "fields" have a certain maximum size, 64kb or something... but the server reserves extra room for it's own purposes. I think it can be increased in the overall database options; though I'm not sure how easy it is to do with a large database like the laanx one, or whether it would waste space. Just stuff I vaguely remember and also some guesswork ;)
-
oh, ok then.
-
Those limits are likely arbitrary and can be shifted
Here is the problem I see with increasing them though:
most people don't make it through the tutorial now, it probably is little more than 60k words if that much.
This is the internet, long-winded is epic fail.
Besides, it was said 500 years ago "brevity is the soul of wit" (mind you by a character whose worldview was being mocked.)
