I am wondering if it is possible to get conflicting quests, the completion of one causes the other to become impossible to complete. I know it is said that faction levels and other considerations can preclude being offered this or that quest but what happens if you gather as many quests as you can and in the course of completing them you cross some boundary which would have prevented acquiring some other quest on your list? Is there some way that such a quest would be automatically deleted or otherwise unsuccessfully finished?

as far as i know if the quest is in progress it will not keep you from getting others [not 100% sure], BUT if you have completed a quest it CAN keep you from getting others. the bug that did exist about conflicting quests when having more then one from an npc has been fixed so that is not related to this.

I figured as much about that, I am more wondering if one open quest being completed can prevent another open quest from being completed, due to faction rewards or for whatever other reason.
Kind of in navel gazing mode here, but still....

no the server is not that smart just yet.

Ah good. Anyway most of my quest problems get resolved after a while.

Right now the conflicts that I run into when dealing with player complaints is overlapping dialog with the same NPC. Example: You've got two quests open (or more) which require you to talk to the same NPC. One quest will take precedence over the other depending on the situation, and you will not be able to progress in the lower precedence quest until you finish the conflict with the higher ranked quest. As we update the older quests with some new features and abilities these kinds of conflicts should reduce drastically. I hazard to say it will never happen again, but the improvement will be significant.
Now, to address the issue in Prolix's example. There is no situation that I can think of at this time where any active quests, completing them, would keep you from finishing another quest that you have open. Now, completing one may keep you from getting a quest that you have not yet started.

A solution to that problem would be a way to change the priority through dialog.
For example, using "about <quest name>" could move said quest to top priority.
It's only a workaround, but possibly a very useful one.

Given what I know of the problem, that actually will not work.
