The Unodin Welcoming Celebration of Ojaveda

The winter has passed. Releasing its cold grasp upon the world. The signs of new life begin to blossom as the buds of the foliage show the promise of warmth coming with the changing cycle. Much of the hibernating wildlife have awoken from the seasonal protection of slumber. Seeking to regain their places within their known environments.
The surrounding hills show the last traces of snow  receding to the warmer weather. The softened ground absorbs much of the melting water before the heavy rains of the new cycle begin. The soil welcomes the rains until it can hold no more. The excess runs of the slopes of the landscape. Feeding into the streams and rivers. They rise quickly to their breaking point as they weave through the land distributing the nutrients of life along their shores. The roar of the rushing waters can be heard
for kilometers from its source.
Across the world the many peoples begin the preparations for the cycles change. Each in accordance with the customs of their region, religion, or chosen way of life. The farmers prepare their fields for the planting of the seasons crops, or the new birth of the livestock they raise. Miners have already began their travels from their winter's quarters to beat the rains, as they travel to set up the camps which will be their homes throughout much of the year.
With the cycle's passing, the trade routes have begun to reopen. Bringing the prosperity of commerce along the once closed lanes of travel. Travelers swarm  the roads with their numbers. Hunters, trappers, traders, merchants, miners, farmers, pilgrims, warriors and criminals all share the same trails. Each intent of purpose towards their own livelihoods.

In great anticipation the merchants unlock their winter storerooms. Preparing for the local and foreign crowds that will come looking to replace much needed wares, or to sell off the season's collection of goods. It was in this year that the merchants began to work together to increase their profitability. Becoming an organization that worked towards the commonwealth of their respected communities. In group they diversified the wealth and influence of their numbers. They became dedicated to promoting and protecting the welfare and customs of their communities. Forming themselves into the Mercantile Order of Commerce.
With the coming of Unodin they turned their interests to farming and mining communities of Ojaveda. Realizing the potential marketability of the region. They enlisted the experience and influence of the Call of Destiny and the Daughters of Xiosia to plan a celebration in the district of Akkaino to welcome in the coming of Unodin. The two guilds set to work immediately. Putting in place the ground work for the welcoming celebration. Then turning their efforts to recruiting help and sponsorship from other interested groups and individuals with whom they have had association. This joint venture would set the foundation of future interests toward the goodwill of the community.

The Welcoming of Unodin brings the communities together in celebration to welcome the upcoming change of the cycle. Centering on Ojaveda for its farming and mining interests. Though, many do look to their own gods and beliefs during this first day of Unodin. It is to Xiosia that will be looked towards in this celebration. It is her favors, and blessings that is sought to bring in the warmth, and fair weather needed to raise crops and livestock. By her will, that the miners may find the riches of her bounties that are brought to the markets to be transformed into usable goods.
The festivities provide the rural and urban residents a chance to introduce their children who have come to age. They are offered a chance to participate in their own activities. Ones that provide an opportunity for them to demonstrate their skills socially, and physically. In the hopes that they may find a suitable companion or spouse.
Pilgrimages are encouraged for those that worship Xiosia from distant lands. To test their faith by the hard journey to the district of Akkaino. To make their humble offerings and prayers at the small shrine placed in Xiosia's honor. They can share in the great feast provided to break the fast after the morning's dedication ceremony that many will have practiced in the demands of their beliefs. If they desire each may join the competitions in hope that one of them may be selected as the Lord or Lady of Ceremonies in the Divine Marriage to welcome in the first day of Unodin.
Merchants, miners, and craftspeople with have the opportunity to display and buy many craft and metal materials at a the Metal Extravaganza that will follow the evening ceremony. As they welcome their patron who
move between the market and the ladies choice dance.

Opening Ceremony
1200-1300GMT
Akkaino Plaza

As the morning crystal light begins to brighten in Ojaveda. The residents and travels who have come to Akkaino begin to assemble in the plaza behind Brado's tavern. A great anticipation stirs in the air at the many different people gathered here.
A podium sets alone in the center. Soon it will be time for the guest speaker to welcome the days participants and to announce the beginning of the Celebration.
Behind that the Daughters of Xiosia are gathered. Preparing some last minute arrangements for the ritual that they will perform to open the days activities. The beautiful group of ladies draw many glances from the crowd as they scurry about with their final adjustments. They depart to the tavern and await their ques from the balcony.

Jaycol stands aside of the whole assemblage. Checking his parchments to double check that all is in readiness. Members of the Call of Destiny are seen moving about the District arranging things for the day. He looks up and over to Siteya, who nods that the daughters are ready. With a grin he returns a nod of confirmation and moves to the podium to announce the Celebration will begin.

[The opening ceremony begins with an announcement and a guest speaker. Shortly there after, The Daughters of Xiosia will perform a ritual to honor the Goddess Xiosia. After they finish the gathered assembly of people can offer their own prayers, and place their *humble offerings near the Shrine of Xiosia that is in place.]

* Humble offerings, hopefully no one will take anything. But! The offering will be later given to the Lord and Lady of the celebration.

 The Breaking of the Fast
1300-1400GMT
In Front of Brado's tavern

Many branches of a religion may practice a period of fasting or cleaning for the designated date of ceremony. The first day of Unodin offers such a date of ceremony or celebration. But, may not be limited only to these established sects. A fasting period may range from a day to several, sometimes even much longer. The longer periods are often classified as a ritual of homage or test of faith by certain groups or individuals. Establishment into or to achieve ranking in some sects may require such trials among their memberships.
Aside from the more fanatic group requirements. The general or common use of one day of fasting may be used
for the observation of personal cleansing or rebirth. Refreshing one's insight towards the divinity of their chosen deity, or their own religious nature.
The period of fasting often ending in prayers of confirming dedication, gratitude, and sometimes of forgiveness. Ritual offerings may be observed in the asking of, or for blessings of the faith. From the simple lighting of a candle, to the sacrifice of male livestock raised for that purpose based upon its vitality.
When all religious rites are seen too. The means for a great meal is prepared for. This is the breaking of the fast. The last honoring of gratitude to the divine host that religious sect. The feast represents the renewal or the strengthening of the vessel of faith. The individual worshiper.

After the morning dedication and offerings ceremony a great community feast will be held to honor the vows, and blessings in Xiosia'a name. The tables will be set up out front of Brado's tavern. The food and drinks furnished by many of the locally skilled caterers. The refreshments are offered free throughout the coarse of the celebration by the local community and merchants of Akkaino as their offering in the Goddesses good name.

[The catering of this grand meal  is being prepared and provided by Addeline Wormwrangler. She has been cooking up a storm to have this great feast ready in time. Her hard work and dedication is a credit to her talents as she labors to set the tables with such an large array of food for the participants of the celebration.

The Maidens Coming out Parade
1400-1430GMT
Akkaino Warehouse District

The large host of people enjoy the great meal presented for them in front of Brado's tavern. The many conversations give a hum to the air. Slowly the young and older females begin to wonder off from the meal. It is time for them to get themselves ready for the Maiden's parade. They move away into the warehouse district and begin to assemble at the far end among the small grove of palms there.
For many this is very exciting for them. It is their own moment to shine among the assembled crowd here in Ojaveda. They have prepared themselves and their dress for many weeks waiting this day to come. The older and married women have joined them. Fussing over the details of each of the single women. Making sure they are as lovely to the eyes as they can be.
Several rehearse their lines for the beauty contest. Nervously resiting over what they wish to say about themselves. It is near the big moment. They can hear the men and others talking as they gather to watch along the street.
Some of the girls giggle as they talk excited among each about the handsome young males they have seen today and who they wished to meet. In a rush they gather the flowers together that they wish to present to those young men. For the are running short on time now.
Soon the matriarchs of the parade assemble the girls together for the last instructions before lining them up. It has all come down to this moment. The faces of the single women glow with glee. The other women look proudly upon them as if they were their own daughter. Their eyes watering in joy of the occasion.
The Matriarchs soon gave the word and the girls settle down a bit. Each taking a deep breath. With the matriarchs leading the assembled ladies. The precession begins to move out and along the length of the street. Already they begin to dance as they approach the two lines of the gathered crowd.

The Lady of Unodin
1430-1630GMT
Akkaino Warehouse District

Following the dance through the surrounding crowds, the girls assemble one last time for the celebrations pageant. The precession turns to move up one of the many ramps in the warehouse district. The girls look at the judges that are sitting at the top. Some batting their eyes in hopes of getting a vote of favor.
They move along to line up along the edges of the short wall, looking out at the crowd that moves over to watch the contest.
The girls though still excited, began to take on an air of seriousness. After all this is a competition now. Each stands tall their eyes roaming among the crowd looking for the males they favor to make sure they are watching. Praying silently to themselves as they wait until the judges are ready. Nerves flutter as the first name is called out for that young lady to move onto the ramp to tell the gathering about herself.

The Lord of Unodin
1630-1830GMT
Akkaino Warehouse District

All the males watched as the women paraded down the long street of the warehouse district. Many getting the favor of a dropped flower as the single women pasted by. They stood and watched as the women competed against each other to become the Lady of Unodin. Now it is their turn to feel nervous, as all eyes will be focusing on them now.
The males gather to test their prowess in a race against one another. A few have the favor of the chosen Lady of Unodin, and they wish more then the rest to be the winners among the contestants. The Winner is the chosen Lord of Unodin, and he will have the honor of marrying the lady in the Divine Wedding for the Celebration.
The men await as the organizers check their lists and set up the course. They look at each other and boast of their speed and their chance of winning. A few place bets against each other as the approaching competition sets a somber mood about the menfolk.
Now the ladies gather around as the men begin to feel the pressure of their watchful eyes. Nerves of steel turn to jam as they look at the girls who gave them flowers. Hoping they will not disappoint them in the race. Anticipation mounds as the first set of names are called out to line up. there will be several heats, only a handful of competitors will race at a time.
The first group lines up at the starting line. Their faces are intense with concentration as they set themselves. "On Your Mark" the voice of the designated organizer calls out.

The Divine Wedding
1830-1900GMT
Akkaino Warehouse District

The race brought as much cheering from the ladies as they had gotten from the men. It was an exciting race indeed. Many of the women run to encourage the male they had favored during the parade. Letting him know it doesn't matter to them if they won or lost, and that they still liked them even for just trying.
The winners are gathered together to be announced and presented their gifts for competing. Then the announcer asks that they all move to the ramp on which the pageant took place. It was time to perform the ceremony of the Divine Wedding.
The Lord and Lady of Unodin look at each other and smile. Though they are not really being married this is truly a Divine Honor to be part of. They take each others hand and turn to the Priestess of Xiosia. The Priestess gives the couple her blessing of ceremony and the two are wed to honor Xiosia.
The Lord and Lady are now bestowed with the duties to lead the crowd in a precession down through the warehouse district out into the Akkaino plaza for the closing ritual to Xiosia. Many dance behind them as they move ahead of the crowd. Their faces displaying their joy as if they were really married to one another.

The Ritual of Gratitude
1900-2000GMT
From the Akkaino Warehouse District to the Akkaino Plaza

A large parade of people follow the lord and Lady of Unodin through the streets of Akkaino. The cheering is loud as they dance behind the happy couple. Over joyed with the honor giving them the two often look back at the following crowd and laugh together at the antics they see. Many of the single men walk and dance with the ladies that had shown them their favor. Enjoying their company and becoming better acquainted.
Soon the large precession arrives at the shrine of Xiosia and the parade fans out around it. The Lord and Lady of Unodin are given a place of honor by the Priestess. As the two take their place the crowd begins to quietly settle down.
The Daughters of Xiosia waits until everyone quits moving around and is silent. Then they begin to preform the closing ceremony, giving thanks for Xiosia blessings for the day and for hearing the prayers for a good harvest season.
The ritual closes and the crowds attention is once again placed on the Lord and Lady of Unodin. Each coming forth to present them with a small gift item or coin. The two except the gifts smiling, giving their thanks to to people who have come to the Celebration. They announce to each one to join them at the reception dance, or if they wish to attend the Metal market that has just now begun.
The Lord and Lady Gracefully thank the Daughters of Xiosia and lead the reminding crowd to the reception at Brado's tavern. Walking along the plaza they can hear the merchants call out about their wares as the evening market begins.

The Ladies Choice Dance and Reception
2000-2400GMT
AT Brado's Tavern

The Lord and Lady of Unodin walk to the reception held in their honor. Much of days participants are already there. A great cheer goes up as the honored couple approaches. The Lady blushes as some yells for the Lord to kiss her. He laughs partly nervous himself as he takes her in his arms and kisses her for the surrounding guests. Everyone there cheers again this time louder then the first time.
The dance is a ladies choice dance. But before that can happen the two newly weds must dance for the company of the reception. The Minstrels play a lovely slow tune with the blending flow of arranged flutes. The Lord takes his Lady in his arms and they dance together as the crowd watches and cheers. They both smile at each other overwhelmed by all the attention of the reception guests.
The couple finish with their long dance. Then the women begin to approach the males they favor for a dance. Many wait for the chance to dance with the Lord of Unodin, as many of the other men approach his bride for the honor.
The band continues to play for the reception. Sometimes a slow tune and quite often a merry one that gets the guests moving about. Many of which come to offer to sing a song for the Honored couple as a wedding gift.
Long into the night the party goes on. Many couples come and go as the reception takes it's course. They walk about the streets of Akkaino in each others arms or holding hands. Some just to get a private moment to talk away from the festivities. They move among the merchants
looking for a gift to give each other to show their intentions of love or friendship.

The Metal Extravaganza
2000-2400GMT
Among the Akkaino Shops

The Attending merchants hurry to get their wares set up as the closing ritual is performed. Checking their inventories one last time to see that everything is in its place. Some have set up early having a servant watch over the stand as they joined in the ceremonies of the day. But now several wait patiently for the cheers that will mark the rituals closing.
They can see as the crowd moves away to the reception, or towards the lines of merchants along the way. Calling out the best choice of their stock the merchants begin to compete with each other to draw in customers. Knowing many will attend the dance first before making their way along the stands.
Today is a special market in Akaino. It is a metal market for miners and crafters to sell and find the much needed materials for their crafts. A market that allows the miners and metalworkers to bring in the early seasons production of ores and stocks. Many merchant carry these too having kept a surplus handy throughout the long winter for a rare or needed sale.
The flow of customers is sporadic at first. Picking up as the night wears on. Many coming from the dance to get away from the noise. Among those customers that have enjoyed the markets purpose many craftspeople and other merchants have purchased large quantities or material or placed future orders with the venders who has come to offer their services.

[Uggh! thanks, i should have caught that.]

[Anyhow's, here it is. I plan at least one more activity for Sunday and the Daughters of Xiosia will be doing one also. Sunday activities are aftermath activities connected too, but not part of the celebration. As I mentioned, details of each activity will be added shortly. But I did want to get the theme of the Celebration up today. So there is more to come. For now there is plenty here to begin working with for those that are interested in participating for the day, or for one or more activity. The play is set and the props will be provided, all that will be needed is the characters to fill in the scripts. I hope you'll come and enjoy the day with us]

[Do you think you should narrow the time frame so that it's more likely people will come at the same time?  Maybe a 6 hour window instead of a 12 hour window, or less?]

[Well!  Thought of that. But, realizing that there are many different playing times as well. It is broader in time to catch some of those that normally wouldn't get a chance to be part of it, as well as those that would. The plan is to provide something for more then one selective group based on that idea. It is a community Celebration so it designed to cater as many as it can. It also developed into being exclusively for role play. So, to crunch it together into a smaller time line eliminates and/or restrains the free flow of acting out a character in A festive style of environment. Not being able to attend the whole affair of the day, is actually more in character then doing so. In RL when you attend a community festivity do you really go early and stay until the last of the crowd leaves. Most people pick the activities they wish to be part of, and coordinate their free time to that. Lets face it people get tired and characters should get tired too. It was never our intentions that you try to be there for the whole day. If you can that's great. The intention behind the planning of the Celebration is to add a theme to role play with. Whether it is the planning to travel there, conversation, or participation of a certain activity or more. The material posted so far, is enough subject matter to provide weeks of successful role play for characters if they apply themselves accordingly.]

[ Myself? Personally, I'm not interested in who wins what, where or how. I'm looking for, and anticipating the acting of characters attending an special event and/or activity in their lifetimes. The display of emotions as they experience new things for the first time. The excitement of being part of a rare activity, the joy of winning, the expectations of trying, the humility of losing, or the frustration of having to leave earlier then you planned. Basically, I'm looking for role play of people going to a huge community festivity in every aspect of it. (So leave the super heroes and demi-gods at home), and challenge your character to be a character. Give them some personality and have some fun with it.]

[And.. that's why we went with a 12 hour, instead of a 6 hour schedule. To allow the free flow of interaction amongst characters at and between activities, without the need to be rushed through the course of the day. I thank you for your suggestion, and we will bring it up for discussion again, but I doubt at this time it will change, but you never know :)]

Good Sirs and Ladies of the organizing guilds~

May I offer meself as another judge fer the Pageant? I would daresay that I am a fair judge of beauty, both external and beauties of the soul and arts. And since my honor of Xiosia be true, then methinks a prayer to her will help me see the true beauty of ye all, and her finger shall point me towards the most worthy Queen of the Fest!

If ye needs a youthful Dermorian, hearty, full of hope and ready with a smile, I would be most honored to assist with that task.

And those blest of beauty amongst ye, please feel free to stop me upon a street corner or e'en in the wilds and introduce yerself, so that I may look to recognize ye at the festival!

Yers humbly,

Roled Rolak

For all interested in assisting the Maidens of the Lady Pageant...

Bathe in a cold river!!!!

just teasing...we shall discuss your qualifications for judging and assisting, we have already chosen two judges and only need a third judge, but I can assure you to not attend the Maiden parade and pageant, if you are a single mate, truly a shame, so many beautiful flowers...

Org...wipe the drool of your face!!  We shall give you the opportunity, If you might enlighten us with the qualifications you possess to assist in the Pageant, we shall take this into consideration. One paragraph would suffice for the Daughters to make our decision.

Roled...we shall take your offer into consideration, but would this not distract you from your intensive studies?  *Siteya winks*

I hope to see many beautiful maidens parading in Xiosia's honor, and of course, those that worship the living Goddesses they are cheering them on, and if Xiosia decrees, maybe a flower will be dropped your way.

Xiosia Bless,

Siteya

Lady Siteya~
Thankee fer yer consideration of me qualifications fer seeing the beauty amongst us all! I think I would be a good judge fer 1) I have the love of Xiosia, and thereby the love of all women in me heart 2) I be pleasant and friendly 3) I be not of evil intent so none could bribe me and 4) I will not just assume a Northir should win the bathing suit competition, tho those of that race wear barely any coverings at all. Tis not the coverings but the uncoverings of internal elegance, form, strength, wisdom and kindness that I would look fer, as marks of true beauty!

And as to this assignment interfering with me magic studies, I do think that the beauties on parade may well conjure up such magic the likes of which have ne'er been seen before in our wild and roughride land. So, methinks participation would be like an intensive workshop in the magical arts o love, celebration and desire.

Thankee,
Yer Admirer

Roled Rolak sits in despair, head in his hands. For some unknown reason the gods of a place called "PlaneShift Client"   :@#\ decided today was the day that the young Dermorian should not have access to the world of the Crystal, no matter how many times and ways he tried to enter. He was to be a judge of the Parade of the Maidens, but even that plea fell on deaf "Client" ears. Roled apologizes profusely, and hangs his head in regret and disappointment. He begs his friends, especially the Lady Siteya and the Daughters of Xiosia, to forgive him. And he begs the "PlaneShift Client" pantheon to restore him to their good graces and allow him re- entry.

He is dispondant.  :( But he wishes all the participants well, and thankee fer listening.
Wiping his brimming eyes,
he is
